なお厚くし、病人がなくても油断なく寒暑の見舞い、朔望の勤め、山からもらった山芋、里からもらったサトイモ、めでたい方からもらった籠肴、寺からの里への付け届け、謝礼とは何のことやら。薬を飲んでも大幣にあちらこちらの医者に四手をかけて、ついに薬礼をしない者にも、心底では憎いと思えど、なお巧言令色を厚くする医者は、医の道を知っているとはいえ、見る目苦しく口惜しかるべきである。丹水子が終後蟄居したのを加茂茂斎は笑ったという。茂斎は隠逸の医師で、
城下を離れて片田舎の山里で自ら耕作して、世上の名利をむさぼる医者を白眼視して睨んだという。

On one occasion, a feudal lord ate a large quantity of buckwheat noodles and then drank alcohol on top of that, so the buckwheat noodles caused distension in his chest, pressed against his epigastrium, made his breathing short, and abdominal pain attacked both his sides, making him appear to be in grave danger. Not only the stipendiary physicians but also many doctors from the castle town and administrative district gathered and discussed various things, but since the overeating of buckwheat noodles was evident, this was not a case for dokusantō, so they put their heads together wondering if there was medicine that could quickly digest the buckwheat noodles.
