鍋（なべ）にて蕎麦切（そばきり）のならざりしを見て扨はあらめはそ
ばを消（せう）するものとせり然れどもいまだ試（こゝろみ）ざれば決（けつ）し
がたし但（たゞし）海帯（あらめ）をたのみて蕎麦（そば）を大食（たいしよく）し飲酒（いんしゆ）せん
より小食にしてそば後酒を飲（のま）ざるにはしがし余（われ）見る

鍋で蕎麦切りが煮えなかったのを見て、「さては海藻は蕎麦を消化するものだ」と考えた。しかしまだ試していないので断定しがたい。ただし、海藻を頼りにして蕎麦を大食いし飲酒するよりも、小食にして蕎麦の後に酒を飲まない方がよい。しかし私が見たところでは、ある人が旅宿で生煮えの蕎麦切りを大食いし、その上に酒を飲み過ぎて、それから胸腹に滞って吐くこともできず下すこともできず、七日で死んでしまった。また一人は、しかもこれは医者であったが、蕎麦切りの振る舞いに二日続けて大食いし飲酒して、二日目にその席ですぐに急死してしまった。
とかく蕎麦は噛むに至らず、酒は酔うに至らず、色欲は止め時がない、という俗語がある。蕎麦切りは数珠掛けまで満腹になれば必ず噛む。酒は胸に満ちれば必ず息を吹くものである。色欲に止め時がないとは、「賢を賢として色に代えよ」と言うが、賢よりも色欲の絶ちがたいことを知るべきである。賢に代えよというなら、賢は堪えやすいのであろう。もとより賢であれば色に溺れることはないが、不賢であるがゆえに溺れるのである。故に「賢を賢として」とあるのだが、しかし止め時がないとはいっても、年齢が傾き色欲が衰えては誰が制
