出て防禦（はうぎよ）一身にあせをながすこと玉のごとし家にかへ

現代語訳
雲上の御歴々でいらっしゃったので、関東からは道三家の玄朔・玄鑑父子、半井家、久志本家、その外名のある御医者を数多く集めて前月より上京して詰めかけた。京都はもちろん御産医師の松浦家、その外典薬寮残らず会合の中で、曲直瀬が衆医を抜きんでて、父玄朔にも遠慮せず「伏竜肝」と申し上げたのは、まことに独歩の才能で医中の龍とも言うべきである。医者はあらかじめ心得ておくべきである。このような晴れがましい戦場に向かうことがあり、また難題なることがある。宋の徽宗の寵妃が痰と咳を患って終夜眠れないということが数日続いて、顔が浮腫んで盤のようになった。入内の医官李防禦に治療させたが、治療が長引いて日を経た。帝が怒って言うには「今から三日のうちに治せなければ必ず誅殺する」と。綸言が出て、防禦は一身に玉のような汗を流した。家に帰って妻に別れを告げ「このような勅命であるから、我が身の能力では誅殺されるに決まっている」と言った。妻はこれを聞いて限りなく泣き悲しんだ。折しも門前を「咳の薬、咳気の薬」と売り歩く者があった。妻が言うには「至って賤しい中にも殊に常ならざる功ありということがある。今売り歩いている咳のすすりは甚だ
