其のちは音羽（おとは）の瀧（たき）の音絶（おとたへ）て舞台（ぶたい）より飛（と）ばねど落（おつ）
る田村堂（たむらだう）の軒（のき）朽（くち）て淋（さびし）かりしに又其のちの大／群集（くんしゆ）
清水坂（きよみづさか）のさわには何ごとぞや是皆／観音（くはんおん）のわざならづ
人のすきよりなり城南寺（じやうなんじ）の水はむかしも今（いま）もある
水なりに三十四五年以前一とせ城南寺の水もらい
とて五／畿内近国（きないきんごく）より人こぞりせしは何といふ事ぞや
むかし寛永年中のなりし北国何村とかやいふところ
の百姓の家に或日（あるひ）夜更（よふけ）て戸（と）をたゝく者あり何者ぞ
といへば此あたりにて山姥（やまうば）の子を産（うみ）たり味噌汁（みそしる）が
あらばあたへといふ折節（おりふし）味噌汁餅（いそしるだご）ありけるを土器（かわらけ）
にもりて出しければ取てさりぬ翌日其あたりの田（たの）
面（も）に実（げに）も山姥の子（こ）を産（うみ）たると見へてけがれたる物も
あり夜前（やぜん）あたへし土器（かわらけ）もあればさてはまがいなく
山姥の産（さん）せられしなりとおもひ我むすめも此月

念（ねん）じければ程（ほど）なく安産（あんさん）したり隣家（りんか）のばゞかゝに
山姥の御利生にて安産したりとふいちやうしけ

その後は音羽の滝の音も絶えて、舞台より飛び降りもしないのに落ちぶれ、田村堂の軒も朽ちて寂しかったのに、またその後の大群集で清水坂の騒ぎは何事であろうか。これは皆観音の業ではなく人の好みによるものである。城南寺の水は昔も今もある水であるのに、三十四五年前のある年、城南寺の水もらいといって畿内近国から人がこぞって集まったのは何ということであろうか。
昔寛永年中のこと、北国の何村とかいうところの百姓の家に、ある日夜更けて戸を叩く者があり、「何者か」と言うと「この辺りで山姥が子を産んだ。味噌汁があれば与えてほしい」という。折しも味噌汁団子があったので土器に盛って出したところ、取って去った。翌日その辺りの田の面に、本当に山姥が子を産んだと見えて穢れた物もあり、夜前与えた土器もあるので、これは間違いなく山姥が出産されたのだと思い、「私の娘もこの月が臨月である。あやかって安々と出産させてください」と念じたところ、程なく安産した。隣家の婆さんに「山姥の御利益で安産した」と吹聴したところ、「私の娘はいついつが出産月、私の嫁はいついつである」

After that, the sound of Otowa Falls ceased, and though no one jumped from the stage, things declined. The eaves of Tamura Hall rotted and became desolate. Yet what was all that great crowd and commotion at Kiyomizu slope afterward? This was not all the work of Kannon but came from people's preferences. The water at Jōnanji Temple is the same water that existed in the past and exists now, yet thirty-four or thirty-five years ago, there was a year when people flocked from the capital region and neighboring provinces for "Jōnanji water" - what was that all about?
Long ago during the Kan'ei era, at a farmer's house in some village in the northern provinces, one day late at night someone knocked on the door. When asked "Who is it?", the voice said, "A mountain witch has given birth in this area. If you have miso soup, please give some." It happened that there was miso soup with dumplings, so they served it in an earthenware bowl, which the visitor took and left. The next day, in the rice fields around there, it appeared that a mountain witch had indeed given birth, as there were defiled things, and the earthenware bowl given the night before was also there. So thinking that a mountain witch had certainly given birth, the farmer thought, "My daughter is also due to give birth this month. May she be blessed and give birth safely," and prayed. Soon after, she had a safe delivery. When he boasted to the neighboring old woman that "thanks to the mountain witch's blessing, she had a safe birth," she replied, "My daughter's delivery is due at such and such time, my daughter-in-law's is at such and such time."
