【Right page】 Just as he was there, the worship hall suddenly made a sound and became as bright as day. When the Enma King took his seat in the center, the Ten Kings lined up in proper formation on his left and right, and countless demon guards stood in rows in front. The Great King Enma declared in a loud voice: "Despite having devoted my heart thus far, my love remains unfulfilled. In my frustration, I recklessly fled and arrived at this place. My heart desires to destroy Sakai-cho and drag the beautiful one here, and though my heart races with impatience, Japan is a divine land with Ise Hachiman, the Inari of Oji, and many other formidable deities, making it difficult to rashly invade other territories. Since matters of young men are under the jurisdiction of the Great Master Kyoho, summon him and give him orders." 【Left page】 The Wheel-Turning King found this reasoning quite sound, so he sent someone to call from the broad field, and when the imperial decree came that the messenger must surely have returned, the Wheel-Turning King reported: "Regarding the Great Master Kyoho, we have heard that he is fortunately staying at his villa in Daishi-gawara, and we have summoned him and have him waiting nearby." When they called out "Come forth," there appeared one dressed in fragrant robes with a nine-stripe kesa, leaving the scent of his noble garments' sleeves, wearing a splendid light blue hat, and taking his seat most reverently. The Enma King beckoned him closer and said: "The reason I have summoned you is no ordinary matter. You may have heard - this Great King is wasting away from unrequited love. Your reverence is the renowned founder of young men, the patriarch of this particular way, so I have heard you are highly skilled in all aspects. What
