物足らぬ風情（ふぜい）にていかほの沼（ぬま）のいかにせん
と世上のいさみうすかりしが楓葉（ふうよう）衰（おとろへ）て
慮橘（りよきつ）花／発（ひら）く習（ならひ）にて当（たう）顔見せの入替り
より若手（わかて）の役者新下り花を競（たくら）べ色を

現代語訳
【右丁】
著しく贔屓の参詣が絶え間なく続いている。ああ、時の流れとは何と無常なものか、命とは何と儚いものか。あれほど名高い柏車と薪水が二年の内に故人となり、劇場も何か物足りない様子で、「いかほの沼のいかにせん」と世間の興味も薄れていた。しかし楓の葉が衰えて橘の花が開く習いのように、当年の顔見世の入れ替わりより、若手の役者や新下りが花を競い色を争い、木戸は大入りとなった。世間の評判は一時の煙となってしまった吉原も建て続き、日々に繁昌がますます盛んになり、美麗さは昔の十倍になった。
【左丁】
人間万事塞翁が馬。生まれた時は裸で、また死ぬ時も裸である。飲めや歌えやと言っても、一寸先は闇の夜に鳴かぬ烏の声を聞けば、拾わぬ先の金が恋しい。このような愚か者が世に多いのも、実に太平の御代の春らしいことで、愚かなことではない。このような世に住む民として、豊かな君主の恵みがありがたいことだ。

The devoted pilgrimage of patrons continues uninterrupted. Ah, how transient is time! How fleeting is life! The renowned actors Kashiwaguruma and Shinsui both became deceased within two years, and the theater seemed somehow unsatisfying, with public enthusiasm waning like "what to do about Ikaho's marsh." However, following the natural cycle where maple leaves wither and tachibana flowers bloom, from the year-end kaomise theater season onward, young actors and newcomers from Kyoto competed in beauty and charm, filling the theaters to capacity. Even Yoshiwara, whose reputation had become like passing smoke, continued to rebuild and prosper daily, becoming ten times more magnificent than in the past.

In all human affairs, fortune and misfortune are like the old man of Sai's horse. We are born naked and die naked as well. Though we say "drink and sing," when we hear the cry of silent crows in the darkness just ahead, we long for money not yet found. That there are so many such fools in the world is truly befitting the spring of this peaceful reign, and it is not necessarily foolish. As people living in such times, we are grateful for the abundant blessings of our benevolent ruler.
