恵みを与えられる御主である神より他に知ることはできない。そのため学者たちも告解の秘跡の恵みによって浅い後悔も深い後悔の代わりとなることを知らないわけではないけれども、右に述べたように、このような後悔に頼みをかけて最期まで先延ばしにすることは、最も危険な道筋であると深くこれを示されるのである。それゆえに、コントリツィオ（完全痛悔）によらず最期まで後悔の道を先延ばしにする人の告解を聞いても、さらに確かではないと仰るのである。

善人たちの書き置かれた右の条々の道理は、いずれも人の後悔の鎖を完全に頼もしい道へと導こうとする...
