六月三日ころ、右の役人（やくにん）又 来（きた）りて、荷物（にもつ）は人夫（にんぶ）に持（も）たせ、三人をば何（いづ）
処（く）ともなく連（つ）れゆきしに、同十六日に至（いた）り、同国ホイホンコク（════════════）といふ
村（むら）にぞつきにける。かくて直（たヾ）ちに役所（やくしよ）に詣（いた）りしに、役人（やくにん）は唯（たヾ）三人を
一見（いツけん）したるのみにて、一町（いツちやう）ほど離（はな）れし空家（からや）に入（い）れ、翌日（よくじつ）又 役所（やくしよ）に呼出（よびいだ）

Around the third day of the sixth month, the aforementioned official came again, had laborers carry their belongings, and took the three men somewhere unknown. On the sixteenth of the same month, they arrived at a village called Hoihonkoku in the same country. They immediately went to the government office, where the official merely took one look at the three men, put them in an empty house about one chō away, and the next day called them to the office again. The official laid out the six ryō and two bu in gold that had been confiscated earlier, along with twelve tan of sail cloth, four anchors, and some nails. No matter what was said, nothing was communicated to the castaways, but when ten kan-mon in copper coins were handed over, they surmised this was to purchase the aforementioned items, accepted the money, and returned to the empty house. During this time, one or two guards were always in attendance day and night.
On the nineteenth of the same month, an official came and indicated that they should be sent elsewhere, but since the journey had many very difficult passages and heavy baggage would be a burden to carry, the rice should be sold off.

Following this gesture, they sold the rice for 600 mon in copper coins, boarded a river boat with the official, landed the next day and traveled fourteen or fifteen ri, then on the twenty-first boarded another river boat and arrived at a place called Hoi An in the same country. They immediately went to the government office with the official, where it appeared that foreign castaways from previous years were living aboard ships. These foreigners turned out to be, unexpectedly, people they already knew: Saheidā, Shōbē, Tomoshichi, Kishichirō, and Zen'uemon from Isohara village in Jōshū province. From this point, the nine men lived together aboard ships, joining forces to petition for repatriation. The details up to their return voyage should be understood by reading the main account that follows.
When the month changed, on the thirteenth day of the seventh month they went to the government office and requested to be sent back at least as far as Qing China. Since there seemed to be no strong refusal, on the fifteenth they went to the office again and repeated the same request, but received the curt reply that there were no available ships this year.
