元文（げんぶん）四 未年（ひつじのとし）五月、無人島（むにんとう）より二十一ケ年目（ねんめ）に帰来（かへりきた）り候 遠州（ゑんしう）荒（あら）
井（ゐ）之 者（もの）、吹上（ふきあげ）上覧所（じやうらんじよ）へ召出（めしいだ）され、嶋（しま）の様子（やうす）等（とう）段々（だん〴〵）御尋（おたづね）の事（こと）。

第七話 遠江の人が無人島に漂流し、新たな漂流船によって故郷に帰る
元文四年（1739年）未年五月、無人島から二十一年目に帰ってきた遠州荒井の者が、吹上上覧所に召し出され、島の様子などについて詳しく尋問された件。
一 無人島へ二十一年前の享保四年（1719年）亥年［今から百七十三年前］に漂流した遠州荒井の者三人、並びに今年同じ島へ漂流した江戸堀江町の水主三人の者どもが、今度八丈島から送られてきたので、当六月三日朝五つ半時［現在の午前九時］に吹上上覧所の御玄関前へ呼び出し、御代官斎藤喜六郎が同行して出向き、奥医師衆が列座し、御小性黒部左京亮が漂流した島などの様子を尋問し終えた後、吹上御役所にて御湯漬と御酒杯を下賜された。
御代官斎藤喜六郎が、右の漂流者どもに島の様子などを尋問したところ、申し上げた口上の写しは次の通りである。

Seventh Tale: A person from Tōtōmi drifted to an uninhabited island and returned to his hometown by means of a new castaway ship.
In the fifth month of Genbun 4 (1739), year of the sheep, those from Arai in Enshū who returned after twenty-one years on an uninhabited island were summoned to the Fukiage audience chamber and questioned in detail about the conditions of the island.
Item 1: Three men from Arai in Enshū who had drifted to an uninhabited island twenty-one years earlier in Kyōhō 4 (1719), year of the boar [173 years ago from now], and three sailors from Horie-chō in Edo who had drifted to the same island this year, were sent from Hachijō Island. On the third day of the sixth month at half past the fifth hour of morning [9 AM in current time], they were summoned to the front of the main entrance of the Fukiage audience chamber. Magistrate Saitō Kirokurō accompanied them, with the inner court physicians in attendance, and Page Kurobe Sakyōnosuke questioned them about the conditions of the island where they had drifted. After the questioning was completed, they were granted rice gruel and sake cups at the Fukiage government office.
When Magistrate Saitō Kirokurō questioned these castaways about the conditions of the island, a copy of their oral testimony is as follows:
