一、無人島（むにんとう）にて数年来（すねんらい）つかひ候 鍋釜（なべかま）の類（るゐ）、八 丈島（じやうじま）に着船（ちやくせん）迄（まで）は御座候処、

誰が何ほど持ち来たりましたかという儀は吟味いたしませんが、左太夫という者の死後に、懐中より送りの様なものの書付に包んだ小粒で一両二分がございましたが、その外の者どもが所持いたしました金銭をみな取り集めまして、かの島の穴の内のくぼんだ処へ入れ置き、入用のないことゆえ二十年余り打ち捨て置き、この度かの島を出船の節に見ましたところ、銭はみな朽ちて細かく砕け、金もさびたものを拾い分けて持参いたしましたとて、青錆になった金の小粒にて四両二分を差し出し申しました。則ちその三人にて一両二分ずつ取るようにと仰せ付けられました。その外印形や脇差、煙管など、吹き流された砌には島に御座いましたが、いつとなく朽ち失せ申しました。
また御尋ね。その三人が島より出船の節に積み入れた鍋釜、籾米、その島にて作ったもの外に、大鳥の毛皮をいかがいたしましたかとの御尋ね。
一、無人島にて数年来使った鍋釜の類、八丈島に着船まではございましたが、八丈島へ船が着いたとあまりに喜び、我先にと駆け上がりまして、鍋釜ともみじんに

踏み砕き申しました。また大鳥の毛皮は、海上にて小舟へ二十人乗り、その上帆の上げ下げなどいたしますゆえ殊の外狭く、鳥の皮が邪魔になりましたので、無人島出船の翌日流れ着いた小島へ捨て置き申しました。島にて作り取った籾二斗程は、八丈島御役人中のうち当分御預かり置き下された段、御用船御出船の節私どもへ御断りございましたので、籾は八丈島にございます。籾米の儀、大体二斗余りあるべきかと思いますが、計り見申さぬ義ゆえその程確とは相知れ申しません。

We did not examine who brought how much, but after the death of a man called Sadayu, there was one ryo and two bu in small pieces wrapped in a paper that looked like a funeral offering from his belongings. We collected all the money and coins that the other men possessed and placed them in a hollow within a cave on that island. Since they were of no use, we left them abandoned for over twenty years. When we departed from that island this time, we found that the coins had all rotted and crumbled to pieces, and we picked out and brought the tarnished gold, presenting four ryo and two bu in small pieces that had turned blue-green with corrosion. We were then ordered to divide this among the three of us, taking one ryo and two bu each. Other items such as personal seals, short swords, and tobacco pipes that were on the island when we were cast adrift had rotted away at some point.
Another inquiry: Regarding the pots, kettles, unhulled rice that the three men loaded when departing from the island, and items made on that island, what happened to the large bird pelts?
First, the pots and kettles that we had used for many years on the uninhabited island were with us until we reached Hachijo Island, but when our boat reached Hachijo Island, we were so overjoyed that we rushed ashore competing with each other, and completely

trampled and smashed the pots and kettles to pieces. As for the large bird pelts, since twenty people were aboard the small boat at sea, and we had to raise and lower the sails, it was extremely cramped, and the bird skins got in the way, so we abandoned them on a small island we drifted to the day after departing from the uninhabited island. About two to of unhulled rice that we harvested on the island is currently being kept by the officials of Hachijo Island, and when the official ship departed, they informed us of this, so the rice remains on Hachijo Island. As for the amount of unhulled rice, it should be about two to or more, but since we did not measure it precisely, we cannot say exactly how much.
