On the third day of the sixth month, they arrived at Gotō in Japan, but the island magistrate confirmed their arrival and came immediately to conduct detailed interrogations one by one. Therefore, just as they had answered the Chinese earlier, they recounted the circumstances of the past three years. After inspecting the ship and various tools and ordering them to come along, they followed to the port of Gotō. After a report was made to the castle town, a magistrate came from the castle headquarters, took detailed written statements from everyone, again inspected the various tools in the ship, and later assigned attendants to them. The group was then summoned to the castle town, which was fourteen or fifteen ri from the port. Here they were granted one bag of rice containing three to and one shō, one bag containing three to and seven shō, two bags containing three to and six shō each, two shō of miso, two shō of salt, and twenty salted fish. After staying in Gotō for over twenty days, with three magistrates accompanying them, they were sent to Nagasaki on three boats, arriving in Nagasaki on the twenty-fourth day of the sixth month. There they again underwent official interrogation and ship inspection, and everyone became prisoners in jail. The various tools they had brought from Batan Island and the items they had received from the Chinese were ordered to be sold, with all the proceeds to be used for travel expenses. The shogunate granted each person one cotton garment, and each person was accompanied by two yoriki, two servants, and additionally staff-bearing soldiers. On the nineteenth day of the ninth month, they were escorted to their home province of Owari. In Owari, the current official in charge, Chiga Shima, along with the provincial magistrate and district magistrate, were summoned to hear the details, and each person was given 915 mon as surplus travel money. The relatives and village headmen of everyone were summoned, and each person was handed over to their respective families. Originally there had been fifteen people on the same boat, but Jizaemon and Jirōbei were killed, Chōkichi died from injuries, and Gorōzō remained on Batan Island and did not return, so the remaining eleven people returning safely to their homes was as rare as flowers blooming on dead wood.
