第一 譚（だん）。 越前（ゑちぜん）の人（ひと）韃靼（だツたん）に漂流（へうりう）し、明韓（みんかん）を経（へ）て故郷（こきやう）に帰（かへ）る。
今（いま）を去（さ）ること二百四十八年 以前（いぜん）、寛永（くわんえい）廿一 申（さる）年の事（こと）なりき。越前（ゑちぜん）国 三国（みくに）
浦（うら）新保（しんぼ）村 佐内（さない）藤左衛門（とうざゑもん）、同 男（むすこ）藤蔵（とうざう）、国田（くにた）兵右衛門（へうゑもん）等（ら）五十八人、三 艘（さう）の船（ふね）に
乗（の）り組（く）み、松前（まつまへ）の商業（しやうげふ）を志（こヽろざ）し、其 年（とし）の四月 朔日（つひたち）といふ吉日（きちにち）をえらび、新保（しんぼ）

第一談 越前の人が韃靼に漂流し、明・韓を経て故郷に帰る
今から二百四十八年前、寛永二十一年申年（1644年）のことであった。越前国三国浦新保村の佐内藤左衛門、同じくその息子藤蔵、国田兵右衛門等五十八人が、三艘の船に乗り組み、松前での商業を志して、その年の四月一日という吉日を選んで新保村を出帆した。能登国舳倉島に到着し、十日ばかり錨を下ろして天候を窺い、それより佐渡国へ渡って、ここでも二十日間ほど波風を避け、五月一日に至って初めて同地を出発し、北海を目指して進んだ。折しも、その夜より大風に遭い、西北の方に吹き流され、日数は定かに分からないが、十五、六日目に、どことも知れない土地に漂着した。一同は初めて生きた

First Tale: People from Echizen drift to Tartary and return to their homeland via Ming China and Korea
This occurred 248 years ago, in the 21st year of Kan'ei, the year of the monkey (1644). Fifty-eight people including Sanai Tōzaemon from Shinbo village in Mikuni Bay, Echizen Province, his son Tōzō, Kunita Hyōemon, and others boarded three vessels. Aspiring to conduct trade in Matsumae, they chose the auspicious day of April 1st of that year to depart from Shinbo village. They arrived at Hegura Island in Noto Province, where they anchored for about ten days to observe the weather conditions. From there they crossed to Sado Province, where they also sheltered from wind and waves for about twenty days. On May 1st, they finally departed from that location and headed toward the northern seas. As fate would have it, from that very night they encountered a great storm and were blown toward the northwest. Though the exact number of days is uncertain, on about the fifteenth or sixteenth day, they were cast ashore on an unknown land. For the first time, the entire group felt truly alive
