女の風俗ハひろき袖にてすそながくおびといふものなし
こはぜにてあちこちとめたるもの也もやうハ
うつくしきそめ色あり又うすものに
五しきのいときんじなどにて

あり女はこしへたまのかぎりを
ながくさげること有又冬といへども
此方のなつのごとくさむさをしらぬ
くにゆゑきぬにわたを入れると
いふことなし男の

たゞしきくにぶりにして

現代語訳
女性の服装は広い袖で裾が長く、帯というものはない。こはぜで所々を留めたものである。模様は美しい染め色があり、また薄い生地に五色の糸、金糸などで様々な草花などを刺繍したものもある。女性は腰に多くの玉を長く下げることがある。また冬といってもこちらの夏のように寒さを知らない国なので、衣服に綿を入れるということはない。男性の衣服は大体中国と似ている。ここにかけるのは杏などという位の人である。礼儀正しく、正しい国風にして、
遊女に馴染んで遊びに行くにも、官に届けて赴くことである。揚屋を「ふるべや」という。
踊りすることを「めんことぐり」という。

Women's clothing has wide sleeves with long hems, and they do not use obi (sashes). They are fastened here and there with kohaze (hook fasteners). The patterns include beautiful dyed colors, and some are made of thin fabric embroidered with various grasses and flowers using five-colored threads, gold thread, etc. Women sometimes hang many beads long from their waists. Also, even in winter, since it is a country that does not know cold like our summer, they do not put cotton padding in their clothes. Men's clothing is generally similar to that of China. What is mentioned here refers to people of about the rank of "anzu" (apricot). They are courteous and follow proper national customs.
Even when going to play with courtesans, one must report to the authorities before proceeding. Brothels are called "furubeya."
Dancing is called "menkotoguri."
