　被居申候其人《割書：之｜》申分に我に惣領之伊名助と申子十四歳
　に成に霜月五々之歴数に至て何日何時に希代之学
　生出可申由被申候其年月を考合するに年月日時附
　合して則此天草四郎殿之御事也と申聞せ候得は皆々
　感入候依之丑十月十二日に天草領内湯島といふ所え
　押渡り島中之者共に勧申候得は島之者十人斗船に乗
　り大矢野え行けるに其節上津浦村より狂気之
　女一人連越候是は色々祈念仕候得共不得快気
　候間可然様に頼申候申候得は四郎聞て頓而本復

　此次兵衛被下候事は少も相違迚弥信心を発しけ
　る去程に天草赤島之沖に而日暮候得は海上に蝋燭
　四十本灯し見せ申候是を見る者共扨々不思議成事与
　申合本之湯島え帰り其事共を次兵衛え申聞候得は

追放された時、天草の上津浦村にママコスという宣教師がおりました。その人が申すには、「私には惣領の伊名助という子がおり、十四歳になるが、霜月五日の暦数に至って何日何時に希代の学生が出現するであろう」と申されました。その年月を考え合わせると年月日時が一致して、まさにこの天草四郎殿のことであると申し聞かせたところ、皆々感じ入りました。これにより丑年十月十二日に天草領内の湯島という所へ押し渡り、島中の者どもに勧誘しました。すると島の者十人ほどが船に乗って大矢野へ行きましたが、その折に上津浦村より狂気の女一人を連れて来ました。これは色々と祈念を行ったけれども快気を得ることができないので、よろしく様にお頼み申しますと言ったところ、四郎が聞いて「すぐに本復させよう」と申されました。その言葉の下よりすぐに本復したので諸人は驚き

この次兵衛が申されたことは少しも相違ないといって、いよいよ信心を起こしました。さて天草の赤島の沖で日が暮れると、海上に蝋燭四十本を灯して見せました。これを見る者どもは「さてさて不思議なことだ」と申し合わせ、元の湯島へ帰ってそのことどもを次兵衛に申し聞かせました。すると次兵衛が申すには「そうであればこそ」と言って、また不思議なものが天より貝の殻に入って降下したといって見せました。それを見ると四郎殿の御意で、少しでも疑う者はすぐに罰が当たると書き付けてあるのを見せ申しました。また無常なことがあり、向こうの高来郡南目の人民は一人も残らず滅亡すべきであると申しました。これを聞いて有家村洲川に

When [the foreign priests] were expelled, there was a missionary named Mamakos in Kōzuura village in Amakusa. This person said, "I have an eldest son named Inanosuke, who is fourteen years old, and by the calendar calculation of the fifth day of the frost month, a student of rare talent will appear on such and such a day at such and such an hour." When they considered this timing, the year, month, day, and hour all matched, and they told everyone that this referred to Lord Amakusa Shirō. Everyone was deeply moved by this. Therefore, on the twelfth day of the tenth month in the year of the Ox, they crossed over to a place called Yushima within Amakusa territory and preached to the islanders. About ten people from the island got on a boat and went to Ōyano, and at that time they brought along one mad woman from Kōzuura village. They said that although they had performed various prayers for her, she could not recover, so they asked for help in some appropriate way. When Shirō heard this, he said "I will restore her immediately." From the moment of his words she was restored to health, so all the people were amazed.
