[Right page] According to the Shimabara Rebellion Matsukura Record, on October 22nd, Nagato-no-kami's retainers Tanaka Muneo, Okamoto Shinhei, and Taga Mondo were alarmed and consulted, then coordinated with ashigaru commander Matsuda Hyōzaemon. They dispatched inspector Tarao Mokunemon, ten samurai and above, plus additional ashigaru and lower ranks by boat. They arrived at the location at the hour of the dog (around 8 PM), taking only Hyōzaemon and Mokunemon ashore while leaving the remaining samurai at the boat. The two went secretly to Sankichi Kakunai's place and observed that, as expected, men and women were gathered together. They called out Sankichi Kakunai and attempted to arrest him immediately, but no one offered any resistance. They took even his wife and children aboard the ship. According to the memorandum of Sano Yazaemon, from October 22nd deputies and other village officials were dispatched to the villages, and guard stations were established at boat landings along the routes [Left page] to inspect travelers.
