As commanding general, on October 26th at dawn at the sixth hour (around 6 AM), they assembled their forces after taking roll call near the bridge at Imamura, south of Kōtō-ji temple. From there, Muneo sent Uchibaba Shichinosuke as an envoy to Antoku village with the message: "Will Antoku side with us? Depending on your answer, we will attack and crush you." The village headman Tazaemon had gone to Fukae village to observe the situation, so they took the headman's younger brother Kuranosuke and the deputy headman Chūbei as hostages. Then Okamoto Shinbei came out from the castle, saying that Muneo should return to defend the castle and that he would go in his place. So Muneo returned, and thereafter Mondo and Shinbei became the commanding generals and advanced to Fukae plains. Shimabara Arima-machi magistrate

As for Mokuza'emon, since Muneo had long kept an eye on him and was moreover his naming-parent, at Muneo's request he accompanied Muneo's son Tanaka Tōzaemon to the battle at Fukae. From the border between Antoku and Fukae villages, they sent two men - village headman Kichibe and deputy headman Ichiemon from Nakokiba village - to Fukae village, asking "Will you side with us? We would like to hear your answer." They replied, "We are about to engage in battle right now, so please come quickly." Accordingly, on October 26th around the ninth hour (around noon), the enemy appeared at a place called Hirohata in Fukae village, and both sides raised war cries and fired at each other with guns. The enemy fired all their guns at once. Our side had half [their men] fire, and when it appeared that the enemy was reloading gunpowder in the open field, the remaining [forces]
