Two chief inspectors (ōmetsuke) guided Gushikawa from the jōdan room to sit facing west at the threshold edge of the third room of the great hall, where he made a bow to the senior councilors and exchanged courtesies. When Gushikawa entered within the threshold, Satsuma-no-kami attended him and came out to the center of the second room.
