叙
𦽳（ばかむら）#1は篁（たかむら）の九代（くだい）の后胤（こういん）かんも天目（てんもく）ひやも
天もくよく飲ぬ予にして又 大通（だいつう）もそこのけにて
高慢（かうまん）きん〳〵己（うぬ）ぼうゆへ人みな己（うぬ）野（の）𦽳（ばかむら）と
笑（わら）ふその身は町（てう）にはりながらまた能（よく）おり〳〵
お江戸に通（かよ）ひ小野小町にちぎりをこめ
則（すなわち）恋川はる町をうむはる町人と
なるにおよんで父（ちち）馬（ば）鹿（か）むらむだ字（じ）を
案んじてあたへて曰く是（これ）をさくら木に
ちりばめてはつ春うぬのほまちにしろと【小町とかけている？】
よつて画（ゑがい）てたわけを弘（ひろ）ちやくすと云

序
馬鹿村は篁（小野篁）の九代目の子孫であろうか。天目茶碗も冷や飯も天目茶碗でよく飲み食いしない私であり、また大通（遊里通）もそこのけにして、高慢でぴかぴか光る自惚れ者ゆえ、人はみな「うぬの馬鹿村」と笑う。その身は町（商人）でありながら、またよく折々お江戸に通い、小野小町と契りを込めて、すなわち恋川春町を産む。春町が町人となるに及んで、父馬鹿村は無駄字を考案して与えて言った。「これを桜の木に散りばめて初春、お前の誇りを町に示せ」（小町とかけている？）
よって画いて戯作を世に広めると云う。

Preface
Bakamura (Fool Village) is perhaps a descendant of the ninth generation of Takamura (Ono no Takamura). I am one who does not drink well from tenmoku tea bowls, whether they contain tea or cold rice, and I push aside even the great connoisseurs of the pleasure quarters, being an arrogant, glittering narcissist. Therefore, people all laugh at me as "that conceited Bakamura." Though my station is that of a townsman (merchant), I frequently travel to Edo, where I formed a bond with Ono no Komachi, and thus gave birth to Koikawa Harumachi. When Harumachi became a townsman, his father Bakamura devised wasteful characters and gave them to him, saying: "Scatter these on the cherry trees for the early spring, and display your pride to the town" (possibly a play on Komachi?).
Therefore, I paint and spread these foolish works to the world.
