In September, King Sho Tai dispatched his uncle Sho Ken to Tokyo to congratulate the Emperor on his personal rule. In this month, the vassal Sho Tai was ranked among the nobility as a domain lord. The Shimazu clan's jurisdiction was abolished and made into a direct territory, implementing the abolition of domains and establishment of prefectures. Lord Goto of Nishikigawa served in the Ministry of Home Affairs and, together with Senior Secretary Matsuda of the Ministry of Home Affairs, went to Okinawa to convey orders. Subsequently, Lord Goto again went there on official business, became increasingly familiar with island affairs, and wrote the three-volume "Nanto Kiji" (Records of the Southern Islands).
