附庸国とした。すべての法令は内地とは異なる制度であった。明治維新によって廃藩置県が行われ直轄地となると、官吏を派遣して政治を行い、旧習を一掃した。私が見た琉球は、もはや昔日の琉球ではなかった。その後、学校が次第に設置され、田野が次第に開墾され、物産が次第に増殖した。船舶が往来し、貿易が次第に盛んになった。今日の琉球は、もはや私が見た琉球でもない。ああ、海の果ての民衆が、このように日々文明に向かって進んでいる。この書を読めば、聖なる朝廷の徳化の盛んなることを見ることができる。
