できない。酒による病気が急激に起こることであれば、人は皆恐れて過度に飲む者もいないであろうから、酒による病気になる者もいないであろう。当時にはさしたる害も見えないので、常に用いて止めず、歳月を重ねて長期間続ければ、ついに大きな病気となり、敗乱が極まって初めてこれに気づくため、多くは治療が困難である。
大体において、急病の者は重篤といえども治療しやすい。徐々に催促される者は軽いといえども治療が困難である。世の人はただ一時しのぎを愛し、ひたすら目前の楽しみを図って、ついに終身の大患を思うことがない。
今この書の中で、大体病気の酒に因るもの数十条を挙げてこれを

論じる。これはその近くて大きなものを挙げ、その遠くて小さなものは引いて延べ、類に触れて考え知るべきである。
或る人が言うには「今、中風・傷寒より始めて諸病ことごとく酒に因るとする。古人の論ずる所と大いに同じからず。中風には中風の原因があり、傷寒には傷寒の原因がある。各病気皆原因を異にする。諸病気皆酒に因るとすることは未だ聞かざる所なり」と。
言う通りである。しかしながら今論ずる所の病気は、ただ酒に因って起こるのみと言うのではない。今論ずる所の諸病気は、飲まない者がこれを患うことは甚だ少なくて、飲む者がこれを患うことは甚だ多いので、その酒に因る

Since no particular harm is visible at the time, they continue using it constantly without stopping, and when months and years accumulate over a long period, it finally becomes a great affliction. Only when the corruption reaches its extreme and they first become aware of it, most cases become difficult to treat.
Generally speaking, those with acute diseases, though severe, are easy to treat. Those gradually afflicted, though mild, are difficult to treat. People in the world merely love temporary expedients, single-mindedly pursuing immediate pleasures, never thinking of lifelong great afflictions.
Now in this book, I raise several dozen conditions of diseases caused by alcohol and

discuss them. This raises those that are close and major; those that are distant and minor should be drawn out and extended, touching on similar cases for consideration and understanding.
Someone says: "Now, starting from apoplexy and typhoid fever, all diseases are attributed to alcohol. This is greatly different from what the ancients discussed. Apoplexy has its own causes, typhoid fever has its own causes. Each disease has different causes. Attributing all diseases to alcohol is something I have never heard of."
This is correct. However, what I am discussing now does not mean that diseases arise only from alcohol. Regarding the various diseases I am discussing now, those who do not drink very rarely contract them, while those who drink very frequently contract them, so their origin in alcohol
