望月太郎は、高梨の娘のことを（三郎が）拒むのは、弟・三郎とかねてより深い縁があるからだと悟った。このうえは三郎を亡き者にして、心の障りなく、強引に姫を奪い取ろうと、弟・次郎と謀って、狩りを催す口実として三郎を呼び連れ、山々を狩り立てていった。

三郎は、かくも謀られているとも知らず、あちこちと狩り暮らしていた。かねてより示し合わせた事ゆえ、（望月太郎の）次男・次郎は三郎を連れてさらに山深く入った。頃合いよしと見て、後ろから望月太郎（と）弟・次郎が三郎を龍の穴へ突き落とした。
【望月三郎、穴に落ちながら言う】
「なんと、謀り事に落とされたか。ええ、無念や。
日頃より念じ奉る諏訪大明神よ、この災難をお助けくださいませ。帰命頂礼（きみょうちょうらい）、帰命頂礼。」
英語訳
Mochizuki Tarō realized that the reason the princess was being refused to him was because of the deep bond she shared with his younger brother Saburō. Determined to eliminate Saburō and seize the princess without any further obstacle, he conspired with his (other) younger brother Jirō. Under the pretense of organizing a hunting expedition, they summoned Saburō and set off driving game through the mountains.

Saburō, unaware that such a scheme had been laid against him, spent the day hunting here and there. As had been arranged in advance, Jirō led Saburō deeper and deeper into the mountains. Judging the moment to be right, Mochizuki Tarō and his brother Jirō crept up from behind and pushed Saburō down into the Dragon's Pit.

"What — I have fallen into a trap! Ahhh, how bitter!
O Great Deity of Suwa, whom I have prayed to every day — please save me from this calamity! Kimyō chōrai, kimyō chōrai!"
