【諏訪七不思議・その五とその六】
その五つ目は、年中毎日、巳の刻（午前十時頃）に宮中に雨が降ること。その六つ目は、「高野の鹿の耳割れ」と申して、神前に猪の頭・鹿の頭など七十余頭の贄（にえ）を奉る際、その中に必ず耳の割れた鹿の頭があること。これはかねてより贄の神降り（神がご降臨になる折）にあるものだとか。
詠歌：「かねてより 神のお供えとして 耳裂けの鹿こそ 今日の贄（にえ）となるのであろう」
【物語本文】
熱い粥の神事で、五穀を竹筒に入れ、釜の中に入れ、その竹の中の物が十分に熟したならば願望成就とする、という（約束の）ことであった。
太郎・次郎の願いは叶わず、無念に思って高梨を首を絞めて殺そうとしたその時、（諏訪明神が）身の丈十丈の大蛇となってお現れになり、太郎・次郎を呑み込んでしまわれた。神力のありがたいご様子であった。
【高梨の台詞】
「今に始まったことではない、当社（諏訪明神）の神霊のありがたさよ、ありがたや。望月兄弟はよい気味だ、よい気味だ。」
「（大蛇の腹の中は）ちょっと痛かろうよ。」
【望月太郎、大蛇に呑まれながら】
「ああ、痛いぞ！ 無残なことよ、なあ……。」
英語訳
**[The Fifth and Sixth of the Seven Wonders of Suwa]**
The fifth wonder is this: every day throughout the year, rain falls within the shrine precinct at the Hour of the Snake (*mi no koku*, around ten o'clock in the morning).
The sixth wonder is known as "the split-eared deer of Takano": when more than seventy heads of offerings — including boar heads and deer heads — are presented before the deity, there is always, without fail, among them a deer's head with a split ear. It is said that this has been the case since time immemorial, whenever the god of offerings descends.
*Poem:* "From long ago, set apart as the god's sacred offering — the split-eared deer shall surely become today's *nie*."
**[Main Narrative]**
In the ritual of the hot gruel (*kayu*), the five grains were placed into bamboo tubes and lowered into the cauldron; if the contents of a tube were fully and well cooked, that would count as the fulfillment of one's wish. Such was the pact that had been made.
Tarō and Jirō's wishes were not granted. Consumed by bitter resentment, they moved to strangle Takanashi and kill him — but at that very moment, a great serpent ten *jō* in length appeared and swallowed Tarō and Jirō whole. It was a most awe-inspiring display of divine power.

"This is nothing new — such is the wondrous divine power of this shrine! How grateful I am, how grateful! And serves the Mochidzuki brothers right — serves them right!"
"That must sting a little in there!"
