【本文】
信州・諏訪大明神は、建御名方命（たけみなかたのみこと）にして、大荒木の御神（おおあらきのごかみ）であります。神前における「板穴の宮影（いたあなのみやえい）」というのは、普賢堂（ふげんどう）の板壁に穴があり、そこに紙を当てると、日（光）の映り（カメラ・オブスキュラの原理）によって、下諏訪の三重の塔が映し出されます。その（普賢堂と三重塔の）道のりは一里であります。

当国（信州）の住人、望月三郎は聞こえたる鄙男（ひなおとこ）なり。信願ありて諏訪に参詣せり。
浅きぬも信願ありて普賢堂にて、互いに見初め、これより人知れず、尽きせぬ妹背（いもせ）となりにけり。

**[Narrative]**
The Great Deity of Suwa in Shinshū (present-day Nagano) is enshrined as Takeminakata-no-Mikoto, a mighty and awesome god. One of the wonders associated with this shrine is known as the "Itaana no Miyaei" — the "Board-Hole Shrine Reflection" — found at Fugen Hall: there is a hole in the wooden plank wall, and when a sheet of paper is held up to it, the image of the three-storied pagoda of Lower Suwa is projected upon it by the light of the sun, like a camera obscura. The distance between Fugen Hall and that pagoda is one *ri* (approximately four kilometers).

Mochizuki Saburō, a resident of this province (Shinshū), was a man of renowned rustic handsomeness. Having a sincere wish to pray, he came on pilgrimage to Suwa.
Asaginu, too, had come with a heartfelt prayer, and the two of them, at Fugen Hall, caught sight of one another for the very first time. From that moment on, unknown to anyone else, they became an inseparable couple, bound together like brother and sister peaks — their bond without end.
