《割書：太い柄は鷹の羽のもろひねり、鞘は鮫皮叩き、身は備前物の三分反りくらいと思われ、脇差はぐっと短く、竹の子柄というやつ、もっとも木塚、鞘は四分一の銅金入り、北刀小尻の研ぎ出し、身は薙刀拵えの肉打ちなどと思われ、小柄は駿河の延べ打ち、下緒は具足の緒締め糸を打ったやつ、仏崎の後ろへ扇を差して、角鎖と矢立てを腰へ付け、髪の風体は鴛鴦というやつ、もっとも小額あり、手に花色の有安をかけ、菅の古い笠を振る。年は二十四、五くらいなり。供は十三、四の小侍、白雲頭の野郎、黒絹の単羽織、大人の着るようなやつを肩で上げをし、大小も袴も不相応に大きく、竹の子笠をかぶり、張弓を菖蒲革染めの袋へ入れ、弓懸け袋と弦袋と雁股を一所に結び付けて担ぎ、片手に弁当を下げる。○一体大磯三面堂の景観帰りと見えるなり》
五郎丸「これ、風で笠を吹き飛ばされるな、気をつけろ」
小僧「はい、はい。もし、先ほどのお矢はどうどう見えませんでしたか」
五郎丸「うう、三面堂も場所はいいが、草が多いから、悪くすると矢を失ってしまう。これ、明日はまた由比ヶ浜で競馬があるが、降りはしまいか」
小僧「どうでございましょうか。もし、あの佐々木様はよくお当てになされます」
五郎丸「何、中途半端な当たりだ。緩みがある《割書：と少し傲慢に》。この橋で馬に乗ってみたい《割書：と付き袖にて見栄を張り、花水橋の上を行き過ぎる》」
