現代語訳
《割書：○折から秋の初め頃にて残暑があれば、川には涼み船、長縄船、潮送り船などさまざまな船が行き交う中になめり川の青砥屋の船と見え、一艘の屋根船、少し南風があれば新妻の鼻を開きに乗る船中。一人の客は小林の朝雛、年は三十くらい、結城縞の単衣物、呂の小紋の羽織を脱いでそばに置く。これは兼ねて大磯の通なり。今一人の客は曽我の十郎、年は二十三、四、もぐさ縞の越後に白襦袢、黒呂の羽織、渋地紙の扇を持つ。これは青楼客にて大の蕎麦好きなり。今一人は団三郎とて曽我の十郎が兄なり。拵えは十郎と同様に水涼しかるべし》
十郎「こう朝さん、花水橋の上を通った侍は、かの奴が勤めていた屋敷の次男だぜ」
朝雛「ふう、なんだか豪勢に武張った姿だのう。見ね、檜垣もこうして見ると大きなものじゃあないか」
団三「この親船には大分意味のある言葉がありますねえ。茶碗などの壊れた事を『はした』と言いますわ。私も一度言ってみました」
朝「おじい、この頃は長縄はどうだの《割書：長縄のこと》」
船頭久「あんまり照り続くから、苦潮でいけません」
朝「そうだろう。おお、今日もよっぽどな南風が出てきたわい」

《Interlinear note: ○It being early autumn with lingering summer heat, various boats ply the river - pleasure boats seeking coolness, long-rope boats, tide-sending boats, and others. Among them appears to be a boat from Aotoya on the Nameri River, a single roofed boat. With a slight south wind, they board the boat to open up at Niitsuma Point. One passenger is Kobayashi no Asahina, about thirty years old, wearing Yuki-striped single garments, having removed a ro silk small-patterned haori and placed it beside him. He is a longtime connoisseur of Oiso. Another passenger is Soga no Juro, aged twenty-three or twenty-four, wearing mugwort-striped Echigo with white undergarments and a black ro haori, holding a brownish paper fan. He is a pleasure quarter patron and a great soba enthusiast. The third is Danzaburo, Soga no Juro's elder brother. His attire is similar to Juro's and should be appropriately cool for the water}}
