うねりがある《割書：波の立つこと》。今日は何日だの。お、十二日だの。こう二、四、八。うう、八つ八分だから、ちょうど今上げる勢い中だ。乗りにくいはずだ《割書：潮時に詳しきは大磯通の情けなり》
十郎「あれ、鵜が鰻を取った」
朝雛「本当に」
団三「豪勢な鰻だ。あれももう呑んでしまった」
と、船は新津へ渡る橋をくぐる
十郎「また尻から出たな」《割書：と舟は新津へ渡る橋をくぐる。向こうからもちょうど一艘漕ぎ来る》「勢いがあったな」
向こうの船頭「おい、おじさん、どこへ行く」
すれ違う
久「縄町だあ」
向こうの船「静かに行きなあ」《割書：とすれ違う》
久「あの野郎もでえぶ櫓振りがよくなった」《割書：また向こうから鎌倉方面の船、棚物と見える客を乗せて来る。女芸者二人、女郎一人、茶屋の娘分が付いて、手船の簾を開けさせ、賑やかに来たる》
団三「こけが心学を習うあしらいめしむしようにも茶碗を叩く奴さ」
十郎「こりゃあできだ」
朝雛「まんざらでもない首だの。おじい、鳥羽瀬だの」
久「はい、ついて行くなあ。鳥羽瀬の釣屋の娘分、サト」
