朝「祐成さん、もう寝たり」
十「何、まだじゃ。なぜ来ない、夜具が悪いない」
朝「ここは茶屋から床が出るから悪いさ。鳥羽瀬なんぞは女郎が持ってくるからみんな傷みなどさ。それだから夜具包みの端に付いてる札を見ると、ここは裸床だということも知れるよ。とんと、まあこうところへ入った所は蒸し暑いじゃないか。極楽の塩風呂がちょうどよかろう」
団「こりゃあできた」《割書：というところへ》
おとら《割書：来たりて鼻紙を着て枕へあて、祐成が煙管を借りて帯の間から裏牡丹の桔梗型の煙草入れを出し、薄巻きの煙草を吸い付けて出す所へ女が筒茶碗に茶をくんで二つ、ちょいと指で摘み来たり、煙草盆の上へのせて行く。おとらは祐成をまんざらとも思わぬゆえ帯を解き、萌黄の糸真田の下締めばかりにて寝る。一体ここの法は初会なぞには大きな帯も解かぬというが定めなるよし。しかれども取り組みによるべし》
とら「もし、何か味に痺れってえない」
十「お前、痺れってえをどこぞで聞いてきたか」
とら「茶ばっかり言いなはる」
十「お前も年はいくつめえが、女郎はない」
とら「ついぞない。お前がたのような革じゃあ御座いません、お召しさ」《割書：革とは革羽織、お召しとは羽二重ということなり》

Asa: "Here the teahouse provides the bedding, so it's poor quality. At places like Tobase, the prostitutes bring their own, so everything is damaged and such. That's why if you look at the tags attached to the ends of the bedding bundles, you can tell this is a 'naked bed.' Really, when you get into a place like this, isn't it stuffy and hot? The paradise salt bath would be just right."

Otora {{Interlinear note: comes and puts tissue paper against the pillow, borrows Sukenari's pipe, takes out a tobacco pouch shaped like reverse peony bellflowers from inside her obi, lights thin-rolled tobacco, and just as she's about to smoke, a woman comes with tea in tube-shaped cups, two of them, picking them up delicately with her fingers and placing them on the tobacco tray. Since Otora doesn't dislike Sukenari entirely, she unties her obi and sleeps wearing only a light-green silk cord underneath. Generally, the rule here is that on first meetings and such, one doesn't untie the large obi, but this depends on how things develop}}
Tora: "Excuse me, doesn't something taste numb?"
Jū: "You, where did you pick up saying 'numb'?"
Tora: "You only talk about tea."
Jū: "How old are you anyway? You're not a prostitute."
