せになる事をつけ衆になると申やす又それ
をしやれていふときは〈浅黄（あさき）のもゝ引（ひき）松坂縞（まつさかじま）〉共
申やす床（とこ）のまはる事を〈大（だい）の字（じ）〉とも又〈ランチ
とも申やす金一分のことをナル升一千とも又
シンヲ一￣チ〉とも○酒（さけ）のことを〈ヘル〉よい女郎の事
を〈十一￣チ〉わるい女郎を〈くはをり〉げいしやの事を〈かは〉
と申やすまだいろ〳〵穴（あな）もござりやすがく

《割書：隣は朝ひなとおへるは馴染みだけ別くして趣あれども、事繁げれば略す》《割書：折節向かい座敷には上方者と見え》
《割書：物好きな客、無性にあるを聞きたがる様子にて》
客「これ、呉服店客の隠語を少し言って聞かせやいの」
船頭「し、呉服店の衆の遊山に出るのを出番と申やすが、出番の当たるのは正二六八の月さ。仲間の通言には、のぼせになることをつけ衆になると申やす。またそれをしゃれて言うときは《浅黄の股引、松坂縞》とも申やす。床の回ることを《大の字》とも、また《ランチ》とも申やす。金一分のことを《ナル升一千》とも、また《シンオ一チ》とも。酒のことを《ヘル》。よい女郎のことを《十一チ》。悪い女郎を《桑折》。芸者のことを《皮》と申やす。まだいろいろ隠語もございやすが、詳しくは申されやせん」
客「こりゃ偉い隠語じゃ」

Boatman: "Well, when fabric shop people go out for pleasure, we call it 'going on duty,' and the times for going on duty are the 1st, 2nd, 6th, and 8th months. In our group's slang, becoming infatuated is called 'becoming attached.' When we say it playfully, we also call it 《light blue leggings, Matsusaka stripes》. Going to bed we call 《spreading wide》 or also 《lunch》. One bu of gold we call 《Naru measure one thousand》 or also 《Shin-o one-chi》. Sake we call 《hell》. A good prostitute we call 《eleven-chi》. A bad prostitute we call 《mulberry fold》. A geisha we call 《leather》. There are still various other secret terms, but I cannot explain them in detail."
