現代語訳
やり女郎、芸者と名乗るに。それよりもまだ脇にない妙な事がある。鳥羽瀬の見世なぞじゃあ、子ども屋へ来る女髪結いの外に、襟ばかり作りに来る女がある。それで渡世になるのさ。そいつを襟のおばさんと付けておくわな。」
十「はて、変わったことだの。」《割書：との話のところへ船頭》久《割書：来たり》「もし、どうなさりますか。」
朝「もう一切りいるつもりだ。」
久「それもよろしゅうございましょう。」
朝「稲吉もなおしてやらっせい。」《割書：と小声にて》「おじい、おつるも首は相応だが、一つかうな棒だぜ。軽焼きを潮煮にしたような女郎だ。ちっと、また貸しをけえやう。」
久「お前のようなもの飽きをなさるお客は見た事がない。」
団「久しい道化をいわっしゃる。」
《割書：というところへ三人浴衣に着替えて来る。おつるは木綿縮みの縞の浴衣。おだんは鳥羽瀬の八綿屋から染め出した鳥羽瀬絞りの浴衣。おとらは鯛丸仕入れの時雨小紋の浴衣。稲吉も来たり。なおし肴などが出る。この客は折々料理番に恥じむゆえ、出し物は気をつけて出すようす。また酒が入って賑やかになり、盃が回り、娘分や女が入れ替わり立ち替わり》
英語訳
"...are prostitutes, calling themselves geishas. But there's an even stranger thing on the side. In Tobase establishments, besides the female hairdressers who come to the children's houses, there are women who come just to make collars. That's how they make their living. We call them 'collar aunties.'"
Jū: "Well, what an unusual thing."
