《割書：とをりとは鼻（はな）すじの事身の｜しねへとは風俗の事皆此道の詞也》〈伝〉此 節（せつ）ほうこう

何サ根（ね）をよくたゞして来やしたいさくさのねへ
のさホンニ此ころひとりとんなすつたしやァねへか

現代語訳
女だ。
《割書：通りとは鼻筋のこと、身の仕舞いとは風俗のこと、皆この道の詞なり》伝三「この節、奉公人も欲しいが、悪い足でも付いちゃいないかね。」観六「何さ、根をよく調べて来ましたよ。いささかの根拠もないのさ。本当にこの頃、一人飛んなさった者はいないかい。おや、判人を代えて、呼び出し判人は誰を入れなさった。」伝三「二人取ったが、聞かない。一人は四五日使うと陰腹虫を病み出す。一人は髪床屋で引っ込んでいるよ。」《割書：突き出しの子供は陰腹虫というのをよく病むものなり。布海苔を煎じて飲ませるなり。髪床屋というのは床屋にかかって髪の毛の抜ける事なり》
「そして、その奉公人はどのくらいのものだ。」観六「五年で金五枚ぐらいという辺りさ。まあ、明日あたり見なせえ。」伝三「明日は勘定日だ。」観六「惜しい奉公人だから、早く取らせてえ。」伝三「仕切り明けにせずに、親判人を通そうかの。」観六「番場屋の忠太が奉公人違いなら、親からそえて証文を取ってあげましょう。相談ができたら、駆けを八つ付けてくんなせえ。」《割書：駆けとは駆けにて》

Kanroku: "What, I've thoroughly investigated her background. There's not a shred of evidence of anything bad. Really, haven't you had anyone run away recently? Oh, you've changed guarantors - who did you get as the new calling guarantor?" Denzō: "I got two, but they're no good. One gets stomach worms after working four or five days. The other is laid up at the barber's." {{Stage direction: Novice prostitutes often suffer from stomach worms. They are given a decoction of funori seaweed to drink. "Kamitoko-ya" refers to going to the barber's and having one's hair fall out}}
"So what level is this servant?" Kanroku: "Around five gold pieces for five years, I'd say. Well, take a look at her tomorrow." Denzō: "Tomorrow is accounting day." Kanroku: "She's a fine servant, so I want you to take her quickly." Denzō: "Instead of waiting for the settlement period, shall we go through the parent guarantor?" Kanroku: "If Chūta from Banbaya vouches for the servant, I'll get a certificate from the parents as well.
