〈五〉「ああ、どうもそいつがなくっちゃあ、あれこれが楽じゃあしない」
〈蝶〉「もしかしたら、明日にもまたそう言ってよこさない」《割書：と言ううちに外の座敷も引けて二階は静寂となる。表座敷のあたりにて、メリヤス・万菊・羽織のお雪かと思しくて》
〽「宵は待ちわび、惑い石灯籠けてみれども、まだささごとの」《割書：とあたりに気をつけ》
〈五〉「昼ほどの文を定めて見たであろう」
〈蝶〉「詳しく見ました よ。今日も今日とて、旦那さんがいやと言われぬもっともな意見は聞けど、私の身の上も何を隠そう、別嬪の数が減り、仕掛け文庫が軽くなって、この差し物も着物もみんな新料の償うもの。お前の身の上といえば、だんだんのあの別れ果て」
