現代語訳

去る秋に拝謁し、貴国が寡人即位の寿詞を奏達したところ、使者具志州王子が初夏に中山国に来着した。まずは御幕下が平安無事であることを報告し、幸甚である。そもそも使者が大納言様を拝し奉り、その後江城に臨んで辞去の日に至るまで、寡夫は大老の奉書を賜る辱を蒙り、衣服・白銀を拝領し、誠に数回頂戴して怖懼の情に堪えない。これにより兼城をもって軽微な土産を奉進献するものである。詳細は薩州太守充久が相達すべき間、詳しく述べることはできない。恐惶頓首。

去年、御幕下に拝謁し、使者具志州が大老により登城を命じられ、両大君を拝し奉ったことは、誠に寡人の恐悦、これに如く事はない。加えて数品の珍貨を拝領した恩恵は俯して抑えても無極である。また足下が賜った返簡及び綿子を受用させた状況に加え、具志州にもまた白銀を賜った芳状は、情として謝すところを知らない。委曲は兼城が相達すべき間、詳しく述べることはできない。恐惶不備。

Last autumn, when I had an audience and your country conveyed congratulatory words for my enthronement, the envoy Prince Gushishū arrived in Chūzan Kingdom in early summer. First, I report that those under the shogunate remain peaceful and well, which is most fortunate. Originally, after the envoy paid respects to the Great Counselor, until the day he came to Egusuku for departure, I was honored to receive letters from the Great Elder and received clothing and silver. Truly, having received these multiple times, I cannot bear the feeling of awe and fear. Therefore, through Kanegusuku, I respectfully present these humble local products. As Lord Satsuma Mitsuhisa will convey the details, I cannot elaborate fully here. With fear and reverence, I bow deeply.

Last year, having had an audience with those under the shogunate, when the envoy Gushishū was ordered by the Great Elder to ascend to the castle and paid respects to both Great Lords, truly there is nothing comparable to my awe and joy at this. In addition, the benevolence of receiving various precious goods is boundless even when I humbly restrain myself. Moreover, regarding the reply letter and cotton that you bestowed for our use, and furthermore the gracious act of also giving silver to Gushishū, I know not how to express my gratitude. As Kanegusuku will convey the details, I cannot elaborate here. With fear and reverence, this is inadequate.
