They picked up three or four swords and tried to throw them inside, but Tazaemon scolded them and made them press them into the ground. Because they defended so strongly as described above, it became difficult for our allies to advance, and there were many wounded. In any case, Lord Hyōgo-no-kami ordered them to prepare firearms. Tazaemon had about ten foot soldiers from his unit climb up onto the wall, positioned them where they could look down at the pavilion, and had them fire their guns. Among these, one or two men from Amano Geki's unit also participated and fired guns, but no heads could be seen. Taking advantage of this opportunity, all our allies climbed over the stone wall on the side.
Also stated: On the same day, the enemies were hiding behind pine trees and in the shadows of daimyo residences within the main castle. When Tazaemon himself took up a long sword and advanced at the head of his unit, about ten enemies emerged in groups from behind stones and confronted Tazaemon. There were many stones from the fire damage, and moreover the ground was very treacherous with burnt ash, with uneven terrain making it impossible to move freely. Therefore, from a distance of about five or six ken, someone among the enemies threw a spear as a thrusting attack. When Tazaemon parried it with his long sword, it pierced through the tip of his left foot's kau to the underside, and the shaft bounced to the left side. Therefore, Tazaemon tried to draw his iza-yari spear, but since the enemy was close, while holding his long sword ready, he had his equipment bearer Ichinosuke draw the spear from his side...
