　朝黒田殿先手角手之石垣に付申候中何与
　致堂る事屋らん少乱多類様に見へ申候故
　丹後守殿人数石垣之根へ詰寄申候次郎右衛門
　事小つか御座候尓飛上り前に道を一筋阿て罷
　在候首尾次第本丸江乗込可申覚悟に候昨
　日三度迄石垣より被打落差物之緒屋連
　候てちちみへふ申候に付細き竹に角取紙く
　具里付腰差に仕石垣江乗夫を印に致味方
　をも招可申為如此に候然る處に黒田殿ゟ丹後
　守殿江度々使を御立最早今日者別義茂無之

　其上先手之備をも御遠慮無之段近頃迷惑
　之由被仰遣候夫に付丹後守殿ゟ引取候得与御申
　付何茂其通引取申候左候得共相居残者共有
　之候故御舎弟小笠原出雲守殿を以是非引取
　候得与御申付候其刻次郎右衛門茂任其意申候
　如此為躰下知をも不承届候様に候得共聊
　左様に而者無之候此如口上色々有之候
又曰城中大形落城分に候故同晩申之刻に諸手
　共に小屋江御引取候得与御上使衆ゟ被仰触任其
　意に被申丹後守殿茂尤御返に候小屋に帰り候与

現代語訳

朝、黒田殿の先手が角手の石垣に取り付きました。中で何をしているのか分からず、少し混乱している様子に見えました故、丹後守殿の人数が石垣の根元へ詰め寄りました。次郎右衛門は小塚があるところへ飛び上がり、前に道を一筋開けて控えておりました。首尾次第では本丸へ乗り込む覚悟でした。昨日三度まで石垣より打ち落とされ、差物の緒が縮んでしまいました故、細い竹に角取紙を括り付け、腰の差に仕立て、石垣へ登るときの印とし、味方をも招くためのこのような工夫をしました。然るところ、黒田殿から丹後守殿へ度々使者を立て、「もはや今日は別儀もない、その上先手の備えも御遠慮ない段、近頃迷惑である」旨を仰せ遣わしました。

それに付き、丹後守殿から「引き取れ」と御申し付けがあり、何れもその通り引き取りました。しかし居残る者共がありました故、御舎弟小笠原出雲守殿を以て「是非引き取れ」と御申し付けになりました。その刻、次郎右衛門も其の意に任せました。このような体で、下知も承り届けないような様子でしたが、聊かもそのようなことはありませんでした。この如き口上が色々ありました。

また曰く、城中大方落城の分でした故、同晩申の刻に諸手共に小屋へ御引き取りになるよう、御上使衆から仰せ触れられ、その意に任せられました。丹後守殿も尤もお返事で、小屋に帰ることになりました。

In the morning, Lord Kuroda's advance guard attached to the stone wall of the corner position. Since it was unclear what they were doing inside and they appeared to be in some confusion, Lord Tango-no-kami's forces pressed close to the base of the stone wall. Jirōemon jumped up onto a small mound and waited with a path cleared in front. He was prepared to storm into the main bailey depending on how things developed. Yesterday, having been beaten back from the stone wall three times, the cord of his standard had shrunk, so he devised a method of tying corner paper to a thin bamboo pole and fashioning it as a waist ornament to serve as a marker when climbing the stone wall and to signal his allies.

At that point, Lord Kuroda repeatedly sent messengers to Lord Tango-no-kami, saying "There is no other business today, and moreover, the advance guard shows no restraint in their preparations, which is quite troublesome recently."

In response to this, Lord Tango-no-kami gave the order to "withdraw," and everyone withdrew accordingly. However, since some remained behind, he ordered through his younger brother Lord Ogasawara Izumo-no-kami that they "must withdraw without fail." At that time, Jirōemon also complied with this intention. Though it appeared as if he had not properly received the orders due to this situation, this was not the case at all. There were various such exchanges of words.

It also states that since the castle was largely ready to fall, that same evening at the hour of the Monkey (around 3-5 PM), the senior officials announced that all units should withdraw to their huts, and this was complied with. Lord Tango-no-kami also naturally agreed and returned to his hut.
