When I presented it to Jūzō-dono at the bamboo barrier, he was extraordinarily pleased, was satisfied with my dedication, and gave me words of praise.
Also recorded: On the 27th, the advance attack by Nabeshima-dono's forces was probably around eight o'clock or later. Sakakibara Saemon-dono once entered and threw fire into the second bailey from this position, setting it ablaze.
The Hanabusa genealogy states: On February 27th, Shokunobu observed the movements of the castle's troops preparing to advance and was the first to storm into the castle. When he crossed over the walls, many of his retainers either died in battle or were wounded. Shokunobu also continued to charge in and summoned Nabeshima's troops, but many soldiers also died or were wounded. The more than thirty thousand troops in the castle fought desperately without regard for their lives, but
However, because Shokunobu and his son, along with their retainers, forgot about life and made light of death, killing many enemies, the rebels finally fled in defeat. Shokunobu, taking advantage of victory, seized the standards and summoned the various military forces, burned the houses in the castle and raised signals of fire to notify all armies. The various armies saw the smoke and simultaneously stormed into the castle. The next day they completely destroyed all the heretics and captured the castle. The two imperial envoys were angry that Shokunobu and his son had broken their promise and entered the castle ahead of the planned assault.
The Matsudaira clan record states: Makino Denzō served as inspector of the positions held by the forces of Arima Genba-no-kami, Matsukura Nagato-no-kami, and Tachibana. His exceptional
