　馬玄蕃頭仕寄場者出曲輪之東之際なれは出
　丸塀際一二間程之間に井樓有し尓二月廿七
　日其井樓に伝蔵上りて居多りけ連は榊原飛
　騨守出曲輪ゟ乗込を見て具足を着して出曲
　輪もまつき己也又二之曲輪も近けれと母伝
　蔵何とか思ひけん三之曲輪へ廻りて三之曲
　輪ゟ乗込与二之曲輪にて鉄砲にて手負多り
　けり
又曰林丹波守は松平右衛門佐所江目付として
　着多りけり右衛門佐持口者大江口与云所也

　大江口は西者つ連也丹波守陣所は丙口与云
　処ひのへ口は東之者つ連也丙口与大江口と
　の間は拾壱弐町とは申せ共山坂多くて筋違
　多連は十四五丁斗も可有に出曲輪ゟ乗込二
　之曲輪江火を懸けたるを林丹波守見て物之
　具を用意而松平右衛門佐持口まて参り多連
　共右衛門佐は出丸ゟ乗込たるは知らすして
　居たる処に丹波守下知をして大江口ゟ天草
　曲輪迄右衛門佐人数乗込春る也右之通りな
　連は外分をそく乗込多るへきと皆人推量春

現代語訳

有馬玄蕃頭の仕寄場は出曲輪の東の際であったので、出丸の塀際一、二間ほどの間に井楼があった。二月二十七日、その井楼に伝蔵が上って居たところ、榊原飛騨守が出曲輪から乗り込むのを見て、具足を着けて出曲輪へ向かった。しかし二の曲輪も近いのに、伝蔵は何を思ったのか三の曲輪へ回って、三の曲輪から乗り込んだため、二の曲輪で鉄砲によって負傷者が多く出た。

また曰く、林丹波守は松平右衛門佐の所へ目付として来ていた。右衛門佐の持口は大江口という所であった。

大江口は西の端である。丹波守の陣所は丙口という処で、ひのえ口は東の端である。丙口と大江口との間は十一、二町とはいうものの、山坂が多くて道筋が曲がりくねっているので、十四、五町ばかりもあろう。出曲輪から乗り込んで二の曲輪に火をかけたのを林丹波守が見て、武具を用意して松平右衛門佐の持口まで参ったが、右衛門佐は出丸から乗り込んだことを知らずにいた。そこに丹波守が下知をして、大江口から天草曲輪まで右衛門佐の人数が乗り込んだのである。このような状況であれば、他の部分もすぐに乗り込むべきであると皆が推量した。

Arima Genba-no-kami's siege position was at the eastern edge of the outer bailey, so there was a watchtower in the space of about one or two ken near the walls of the outer fortress. On February 27th, when Denzō had climbed up that watchtower and was stationed there, he saw Sakakibara Hida-no-kami storming in from the outer bailey. He put on his armor and headed toward the outer bailey. However, although the second bailey was also nearby, for some reason Denzō went around to the third bailey and entered from there, resulting in many casualties from gunfire at the second bailey.

It is also recorded that Hayashi Tamba-no-kami had come as an inspector to Matsudaira Uemon-no-suke's position. Uemon-no-suke's assigned sector was a place called Ōeguchi.

Ōeguchi was at the western end. Tamba-no-kami's camp was at a place called Hinoe-guchi (C-gate), and Hinoe-guchi was at the eastern end. Although the distance between Hinoe-guchi and Ōeguchi was said to be eleven or twelve chō, there were many hills and slopes with winding paths, so it was probably about fourteen or fifteen chō. When Hayashi Tamba-no-kami saw that they had stormed in from the outer bailey and set fire to the second bailey, he prepared his weapons and went to Matsudaira Uemon-no-suke's position. However, Uemon-no-suke was unaware that the attack from the outer fortress had begun. Then Tamba-no-kami gave commands, and Uemon-no-suke's forces stormed in from Ōeguchi to Amakusa bailey. Given this situation, everyone surmised that other sections should also immediately storm in.
