又曰松平甚三郎は正月朔日に手負疵いへず候
　得者役付けなかりけり甚三郎心尓や思ひけ
　ん城惣責有明に手負迚陣屋に残らんも口惜
　し膝之口を鉄砲にて討けれはゑたはかな已
　須何とかせんと思ひ希んい屋登よ駕籠を作
　りて乗塀之内江打込れて討死せんと郎等共
　を頼みて社二之曲輪之内江打込連多連共敵
　は退き無故に何事も無而郎等共も皆乗込也
　甚三郎本丸差而懸らるゝ処に二之丸之内大

　谷之小屋之内江通りかゝつたれは二之丸之
　一揆原本丸へ逃入らんとする処江甚三郎行
　懸る一揆原甚三郎籠尓乗多るを見而一文字
　に甚三郎に懸る処を甚三郎郎等共に阿連討
　与下知春れは郎等共進んて我先に与懸つて
　組討春る者も有り面々に頭壱究討取残る一
　揆原は散々に本丸江そ逃込たり甚三郎郎等
　共面々に頭を甚三郎前へ持来る処に手柄成
　与云今日は首は討捨与聞たる之間皆楚こ尓
　て捨よ迚捨させて則本城へ楚懸りたり本丸

また曰く、松平甚三郎は正月朔日に負傷し、傷が治らないので役職に就けなかった。甚三郎は心の内でこう思ったのであろう。城の総攻撃があるのに、負傷したからといって陣屋に残るのも口惜しい。膝の傷を鉄砲で撃たれたのだから、足腰が立たないのは仕方がないが、何とかしなければと思い、家来たちに駕籠を作らせて乗り、塀の内へ打ち込んで討死しようと郎等たちに頼んで、ついに二の曲輪の内へ打ち込んだ。しかし敵は退いていて、何事もなく郎等たちも皆乗り込んだのである。甚三郎が本丸に向かって懸かったところ、二の丸の内の大

谷の小屋の内を通りかかったとき、二の丸の一揆原（一揆の者たち）が本丸へ逃げ入ろうとするところに甚三郎が行き当たった。一揆原は甚三郎が駕籠に乗っているのを見て、一文字に甚三郎に向かって懸かってきた。そこを甚三郎は郎等たちに「あれを討て」と下知したので、郎等たちは進んで我先にと懸かって組み討ちする者もあり、めいめいに首を一つずつ討ち取った。残りの一揆原は散々に本丸へと逃げ込んだ。甚三郎の郎等たちがめいめいに首を甚三郎の前へ持参したところ、「手柄である」と言い、「今日は首は討ち捨てよと聞いている」ので、皆そこに捨てよということで捨てさせて、すぐに本城へと懸かっていった。本丸

It is also recorded that Matsudaira Jinsaburō had been wounded on New Year's Day, and because his wounds would not heal, he was not assigned to any official duties. Jinsaburō probably thought to himself: "Even though there will be a general assault on the castle, it would be regrettable to remain in the camp just because I am wounded. I was shot in the knee with a gun, so it's inevitable that I cannot stand properly, but I must do something about this." He had his retainers make a palanquin for him to ride in, asking his rōtō (senior retainers) to help him charge into the enclosure and die in battle. Finally, they charged into the second bailey. However, the enemy had already retreated, so nothing happened and all his rōtō also entered safely. When the ikki-bara saw that Jinsaburō was riding in a palanquin, they charged straight at him. Jinsaburō commanded his rōtō, "Strike them down!" so his retainers advanced eagerly, competing to be first, some engaging in hand-to-hand combat, and each took one head. The remaining ikki-bara scattered and fled into the main keep. When Jinsaburō's rōtō each brought the heads before Jinsaburō, he said "Well done," and added, "I have heard that today the heads should be discarded," so he had them all discard them there and immediately charged toward the main castle.
