were ordered to take the same approach as Etchū-dono and Sakon. While making preparations accordingly, on the 27th there was suddenly an assault on the castle. Sakon and others also advanced from the third and second citadels, pressed toward the main citadel, and first took position in front of the lotus pond to observe the situation. At the eastern approach of the main citadel at the slope entrance, forces from other domains repeatedly attempted to break through. Watching for an opportunity, Sakon's forces climbed up from the eastern corner of the main citadel on the seaside, and at the base of the walls they assembled alongside forces from various other domains. When evening approached, they quickly withdrew their forces. However, orders came repeatedly through messengers that they should set up palisades and attack the castle after dawn, and since various daimyo were present, all their retainers withdrew down to the bottom of the slope.
Sakon's forces, however, did not withdraw in the end. Under Sakon's command, they were first to attack from the eastern corner of the main citadel on the seaside and raised fire signals. Specifically, Tachibana Naizen's banner from among Sakon's forces, as well as the identification markers of the advance troops, entered the citadel. Sakon's banners and horse insignia also pushed into the main citadel. As night fell, that night forces took positions throughout the main citadel. At the inner citadel, military commanders brought foot soldiers and surrounded it, firing muskets throughout the night and killing many enemies. During this time they burned down wooden buildings. On the 28th they moved to the north side, and under Sakon's command, Sakon's forces climbed up from the stone walls at the corner of the northern Haruto entrance. A little before that, in the morning, two or three men at a time from other forces climbed the walls
