　は細川歟手延にして天草之郷人原を打洩
　し多類故け様に募立候細川者天草之郷人
　取籠堂類攻口を届ふ申候而不叶處に候殊
　尓細川者両家之衆江仕寄をも付候而返々
　不申候此段者偏に御自分之御入魂に被　召越
　中守殿に候与被仰候時伊豆守殿思召御尤に候
　此段者重而可被仰達との御返答也其後豆
　州江戸御着候得共如何様右之様子相聞候
　故歟御目見茂備ふ申候処立済様其時者
　《割書：飛騨守｜与申候》御着被遊候則御前江被召出其方

　参府御待兼被遊候島原之様子可被仰上との
　上意也宗茂様被仰上候者今度御目代として若
　き伊豆守を被差下候間如何可有御座候成与存
　候所に万事之儀驚入堂類儀義に御座候委細伊
　豆守可申上兎角　上之御目加祢難有殊に被奉
　存候老衰仕始終つゝ満屋可尓御座間敷由被仰
　上候　上意に伊豆諸事之下知よか里つるかと
　の儀也残處無御座候与被仰上候然者御逢可
　被遊由被仰出則伊豆守御目見相備候夫故豆州
　者立斎様江大形ならさ類御ちなみ也

は細川が手延（手薄）にして天草の郷人が原城へ逃げ込んだため、このように蜂起した。細川は天草の郷人を取り籠めた攻め口を塞ぐと申したが叶わない状況にある。殊に細川は両家の軍勢に仕寄せ（攻城設備）も付けて返さない。この件は偏に御自分の御入魂により召し越されたのが越中守殿である」と申された。その時、伊豆守殿は「お考えもっともでございます。この件は重ねて申し達すべきでしょう」との御返答であった。その後、豆州（伊豆守）が江戸に御着きになったが、どのような具合か右の様子が聞こえたためか、御目見も叶わないという状況であった。その時は飛騨守と申していたが、御着きになるとすぐに御前へ召し出され、「その方の参府を待ちかねていた。島原の様子を申し上げよ」との上意であった。

宗茂様が申し上げたのは「今度御目代として若き伊豆守を派遣されましたが、如何なものかと存じていたところ、万事において驚き入るような義でございました。委細は伊豆守が申し上げます。とかく上様の御目鑑は有難く、殊に恐れ多く存じます。老衰いたし、始終つつがなく御座間敷」と申し上げた。上意に「伊豆は諸事の指揮がよかったということか。残るところはないか」と申された。「然らば御対面しよう」と仰せ出され、すぐに伊豆守が御目見を仰せつかった。それゆえ豆州は立斎様に大いなる御恩寵である。

Afterward, when Tōshū (Izu-no-kami) arrived in Edo, perhaps because news of this situation had somehow reached there, he was unable to obtain an audience. At that time he was called Hida-no-kami, but upon his arrival he was immediately summoned before the shogun, who said, "I have been eagerly awaiting your return to the capital. Report on the situation at Shimabara."

Lord Munetaka reported: "This time you sent the young Izu-no-kami as your representative, and I wondered how this would go, but in all matters his conduct was truly admirable. Izu-no-kami will provide the details. In any case, your discernment, my lord, is remarkable and truly awe-inspiring. I have grown old and frail, and may not serve consistently throughout." The shogun responded: "So Izu handled all affairs well, is that so? Is there nothing remaining to be done?" He then declared, "Then I shall grant him an audience," and immediately Izu-no-kami was granted an audience. Thus Tōshū received great favor from Lord Risai.
