現代語訳

[硫黄山]は黒島とも名付けられる。山には鳥が多いため、鳥島とも名付けられる。中山の西北350里に位置し、姑米山と南北に向かい合って立っている。山には草木がない。硫黄採取戸40余家を配置している。毎年米を送って彼らの食料とする。二人の酋長が統治し、泊府の官が遠隔地から統治している。その住民は硫黄の気によって薫り焼かれるため、目は皆羊のように精明でない。近くに灰堆山、尤家埠、移山奥がある。

　　東北の八島
[由論（ヨロン）]は中山の東北500里に位置する。芭蕉を産し、蕉の実を結ぶ。樫の木が多い。
[永良部（エラブ）]は訛って伊闌埠（イラフ）という。中山の東北550里に位置する。温泉がある。
[度姑（トク）]は徳島と訳される。中山の東北600里に位置する。
[由呂（ヨロ）]は度姑の東北38里に位置する。
[烏奇（ウケ）奴]は度姑の東北40里に位置する。
[佳奇（カケ）呂麻]は中山の東北771里に位置する。
[大島]の土名は烏父世麻（オオシマ）である。度姑の東北に位置し、中山から800里離れている。水路で3日で到達できる。その島の長さは130里である。7つの間切に分かれ、西間切、東間切および笠利、名瀬、屋喜、住用、古見などの間切がある。200余りの村落に分属している。その島には孔子廟がない。四書五経、唐詩などの書がある。自ら小琉球と称している。大酋長12名、小酋160余名がいる。米を産する。

[Sulfur Mountain] is also named Black Island. Because the mountain has many birds, it is also named Bird Island. It is located 350 li northwest of Chuzan and stands facing Kume Mountain from north to south. The mountain has no vegetation. Over 40 households engaged in sulfur mining are stationed there. Rice is sent annually to provide their sustenance. Two chieftains govern them, and officials from Tomari Prefecture rule from a distance. The inhabitants, being scorched and permeated by sulfurous vapors, all have eyes like sheep that lack clarity. Nearby are Gray Heap Mountain, Yukaebu, and Iyamaoku.

　　The Eight Northeastern Islands
[Yoron] is located 500 li northeast of Chuzan. It produces bananas and bears banana fruits. It has many oak trees.
[Erabu] is corrupted to Irabu. It is located 550 li northeast of Chuzan. It has hot springs.
[Toku] is translated as Toku Island. It is located 600 li northeast of Chuzan.
[Yoro] is located 38 li northeast of Toku.
[Uke-nu] is located 40 li northeast of Toku.
[Kake-roma] is located 771 li northeast of Chuzan.
[Oshima] has the local name Ohoshima. It is located northeast of Toku, 800 li from Chuzan. It can be reached by water route in three days. The island is 130 li long. It is divided into seven magiri (districts), including West Magiri, East Magiri, and the magiri of Kasari, Nase, Yaki, Sumiyo, and Komi. It is subdivided into over 200 villages. The island has no Confucian temple. It has books such as the Four Books and Five Classics and Tang poetry. It calls itself Little Ryukyu. There are 12 great chieftains and over 160 lesser chieftains. It produces rice.
