瓦（カワラ）にて拵たる置爐（ヲキロ）の様なる物に火を夥敷（ヲビタヽシク）焚其瓦の焼たるほとりにて
寒気を凌（シノク）也薪は松桜也さくらに花咲す松は竹のことく真直に延（ノビ）木筋は
小筋にして桧（ヒノキ）木のことく也此松にて作りたる箱壱つ船主平之丞方□有り
一夏は五六月の頃日本の土用中といへる時は漸々十四五日有此暑気と
いへるも日中に袷と単物を着す也朝夕は綿入を不用は寒しわた入と
申は鳥の羽を入たる事也七月始より川水氷也極寒国也
一客来有し時客へ茶をさし出すには茶台にきけて台の く客（キヤク）に
上るなり客茶を呑時は茶 碗（ワン）より代台に移（ウツ）し台にて呑也台と
いへるは皿の様なる物也
一朝夕用いる茶極上々の茶也しかし牛の乳（チ）をさして用也
一此国の女人 乳（チ）は一円に不出子を育（ソタテル）に牛（ウシ）之乳を器（ウツワ）ものにしぼり乳房（チブサ）程に
包み是をすわせ用也牛の子には麦の粉をねりて是をすわせ育也
此牛の乳売物にも有也此国に牛のなき家壱軒もなしいか成貧者
にてもかい置也
一火事は日本と同ししかし石作りの家よりは火不出木作りの家より
いつる也火は至而うとく見得申候龍頭水にしはろき懸けるなり
龍頭水日本よりは格別に水の登りよく相み得申候火事へも度々
参り候所龍頭水に而□多々しめし候也
一私とも此所に八ヶ年居候間見 馴（ナレ）聞馴言葉も覚へ風俗も大躰覚候処
に竹浜吉郎治と申者此所にて病死す右之趣代官所へ訴（ウツタイ）けれは取仕廻ひ金五枚

瓦で作った置き炉のような物に火を盛んに焚き、その瓦の焼けたところで寒気をしのいでいる。薪は松と桜である。桜には花が咲く。松は竹のように真っ直ぐに伸び、木目は細かくて檜のようである。この松で作った箱が一つ、船主平之丞の家にある。
一、夏は五六月の頃、日本の土用中という時期はわずか十四五日ほどある。この暑気といっても日中に袷と単物を着る。朝夕は綿入れを使わなければ寒い。綿入れというのは鳥の羽を入れたものである。七月始めより川の水が氷る極寒の国である。
一、客が来た時に客へ茶を差し出すには、茶台に載せて台ごと客に差し上げる。客が茶を飲む時は茶碗から台に移して台で飲む。台というのは皿のような物である。
一、朝夕用いる茶は極上の茶である。しかし牛の乳を入れて用いる。
一、この国の女人の乳は全く出ない。子を育てるのに牛の乳を器に搾り、乳房ほどに包んで、これを吸わせて用いる。牛の子には麦の粉を練って、これを吸わせて育てる。この牛の乳は売り物にもある。この国に牛のない家は一軒もない。いかなる貧者でも飼い置いている。
一、火事は日本と同じである。しかし石造りの家からは火が出ず、木造りの家から出る。火はとても恐ろしく見える。竜頭（ポンプ）で水を激しくかける。竜頭の水は日本よりも格別に水の上りがよく見える。火事にも度々参ったところ、竜頭で多々消し止めた。
一、私どもはこの所に八ヶ年居る間に見慣れ聞き慣れ、言葉も覚え風俗も大体覚えたところ、竹浜吉郎治という者がこの所で病死した。この旨を代官所へ訴えれば、取り仕回し金五枚

[They make] tile-built brazier-like objects and burn fires vigorously in them, warding off the cold by the heated tiles. The firewood is pine and cherry. Cherry trees bloom with flowers. Pine grows straight like bamboo, with fine grain like hinoki cypress. There is one box made from this pine at the house of ship master Heinojo.
One: Summer lasts around the fifth and sixth months - what corresponds to Japan's midsummer period lasts only about fourteen or fifteen days. Even during this hot season, people wear lined and unlined garments during the day. In the morning and evening, it is cold without padded clothing. "Padded clothing" refers to garments filled with bird feathers. From the beginning of the seventh month, river water freezes - it is an extremely cold country.

At this point, a man named Takehama Kichiruji died of illness in this place. When we reported this matter to the magistrate's office, [they provided] handling expenses of five pieces of gold.
