有日本にて見馴ぬ魚有り此嶋に寅ノ七月より卯ノ四月まて逗留す
彼ノ商船の船頭云けるはに日本の食物と違ひ魚類計喰候ゆへか
人の色次第に悪くなる也我らは此嶋に三ヶ年居て諸の皮を買調□也
当月まてに壱ヶ年半居て商物調船へ積入候事半途なれしも
永く此嶌に居ては日本人とも壱人も助るまじとて其商船に私とも
壱五人を乗せ卯ノ四月出船す此海上道法四百里余丑寅と走る
此商船頭志誠に日本人の及はぬ寒心也人は欲（ヨク）に募（ツノリ）り人を殺（コロシ）
悪心おこる事日本人に多く有けるに彼人々の姿（スガダ）有様は蝦夷（エゾ）に
同し形なるにヲロシヤ国の都より此所まて道法凡壱万九千里余の
所より来り日本人を助んと商を半途にして国に帰る志しを老し
私共神か仏と思ひなみたをなかしける也
一サンバヒヤウ 此所ヲロシヤ国ゟ代官来て支配す
一此所へ卯四月五日に着ㇲ此所の人ヲンデライツケと同し姿にて衣類は
鳥獣の皮也食物は同く魚計也穴を住家とす獣の皮多出る所也
此所の海上にて暮六ッ時日輪西へ入給ひ則東の方を見れは暁六ッ時
の様に東の空ほのかにしらむ也如此事何故と此所の人に尋けるに
此所は北国の最上に近き所にて日輪南の奥に片寄りて通り給也
西南の間近き故に期あらんといふ故に極寒国也翌廿六日此所を出船して
アミセイツカえ未申と走り此道法千三百里余

日本では見慣れない魚がいる。この島に寅年の七月から卯年の四月まで滞在した。
その商船の船頭が言うには、「日本の食物と違って魚類ばかり食べるせいか、人の顔色がだんだん悪くなる。我々はこの島に三年いて様々な毛皮を買い集めている。今月までに一年半いて商品を調達し船に積み込んだが、まだ半分程度である。しかし長くこの島にいては日本人たちは一人も助からないだろう」と言って、その商船に私ども十五人を乗せ、卯年四月に出船した。この海上の距離は四百里余りで、丑寅の方角に向かう。
この商船の船頭は、まことに日本人では及ばないほどの慈悲深い心を持っていた。人は欲に駆られて人を殺し、悪心を起こすことが日本人には多くあるが、この人々の姿や様子は蝦夷と同じ姿であるのに、オロシア国の都からこの所まで、距離にして約一万九千里余りの所から来て、日本人を助けようと商売を途中で切り上げて国に帰る志を示してくれた。私どもは神か仏かと思い、涙を流したのであった。

この所の海上では、夕方六つ時に太陽が西へ沈み、すぐに東の方を見ると、明け方六つ時のように東の空がほのかに白んでいる。このようなことは何故かとこの所の人に尋ねると、「この所は北国の最北端に近い所で、太陽が南の奥に片寄って通るからだ。西南の間が近いゆえに短いのだ」と言うので、極寒の国である。翌二十六日この所を出船してアミセイツカへ未申の方角に向かい、この距離は千三百里余りである。

There were fish unfamiliar to those seen in Japan. We stayed on this island from July of the Tiger year until April of the Rabbit year.
The captain of that merchant ship said, "Perhaps because the food differs from Japanese food and they eat only fish, people's complexion gradually worsens. We have been on this island for three years collecting various pelts. We have been here for a year and a half until this month, procuring goods and loading them onto the ship, but we are only halfway done. However, if we stay on this island much longer, not one of the Japanese will survive." So he took us fifteen people aboard his merchant ship and departed in April of the Rabbit year. The distance over this sea was over 400 ri, heading in the northeast direction.
This merchant ship captain truly had a compassionate heart that Japanese people could not match. While Japanese people often kill others driven by greed and harbor evil intentions, these people, whose appearance and manner were the same as the Ezo, came from about 19,000 ri away from the Russian capital to this place, and showed the intention to help the Japanese by cutting short their business and returning to their country. We thought of them as gods or buddhas and shed tears.

1. We arrived at this place on April 5th of the Rabbit year. The people of this place have the same appearance as those of Onderaitsuke, with clothing made of bird and animal skins. Their food is likewise only fish, and they live in pit dwellings. It is a place where many animal pelts are produced.
At sea in this place, the sun sets in the west at the evening hour of six, and immediately looking to the east, the eastern sky faintly whitens as if it were the dawn hour of six. When we asked the people of this place why this happens, they said, "This place is near the northernmost point of the northern country, and the sun passes by leaning toward the southern depths. Because the interval between west and south is short, this happens." So it is an extremely cold country. The next day, the 26th, we departed this place for Amiseituka, heading in the southwest direction, a distance of over 1,300 ri.
