見れハ方百間計りの間山落入て谷となり又方百間計の
小嶋海中に出来たり辺土にはかゝるふしきなる事も有
けるもの也予も行て見けれとも此辺海岸小嶋多く岸は
岩石にて荒磯なれハいつれ新たに出来ける小嶋とも見へ
さる故うち見には聞伝へとは違ひてふしきの思ひもさめ
けり此江指より三里西乙部といふ所迄御巡検も御出の場所
にて乙部より十二里熊石といふ所松前領分西方の限り
なり東方は松前より廿七里亀田といふ所領分の限りにて
亀田より一里箱館といふ小湊廻船入込繁昌の所なり東廻り
御廻船も此所にて日和待をして出舟す是迄御巡検の

にて亀田別して土地よろしく三里四方計りの平地あり
畠として百姓住セり此辺の山は尾崎長くそひへゆるやか
なる景勝駿河ことくなり此亀田より三十里東蝦夷地に
臼ヶ嶽といふ山あり硫黄気にて絶頂焚崩れ臼の形の
ことくに残れり麓に善光寺の弥陀とて安置セり蝦夷
人も是を尊敬し不思義の奇瑞も有よし云伝ふ蝦夷地

This port of Hakodate is an inlet for anchoring ships, unlike anywhere in Ōshū or Rikuō provinces, and Kameda has particularly good land with a plain of about three to four ri square where farmers are settled to work the fields. The mountains in this area have long ridges that extend gently, creating scenic beauty like that of Suruga. Thirty ri east of this Kameda, in Ezo territory, there is a mountain called Usu-ga-take, where the peak has been burned and collapsed due to sulfurous gases, leaving it shaped like a mortar (usu). At its foot, an Amida Buddha from Zenkōji Temple is enshrined, and the Ainu people also revere it, with mysterious miracles said to occur there according to tradition. While travel to Ezo territory is prohibited, itinerant monks secretly make pilgrimages there.
