現代語訳
お宅へ出向いてお目にかかり申し上げました件について、極内々のことでお聞きしましたが、下役の萩左衛門は、こちらで他に心配事もございますので、後任の下役を心がけるよう考えております。そのため名前を四五人、心当たりのある者をお書きして、まずはご覧いただきたいとのことです。なお、ご同役の方ともしっかりとご相談があり、明日夕方までに後任下役の名前を書いてご持参することになりました。その上で再度ご挨拶に伺うことになります。もっとも内々の件ということをお聞きしましたので、同役にも申し聞かせて評議いたし、明日夕方までに名前書きを差し上げる旨を申し上げました。
同六日
一、昨日内意をお聞かせいただきましたので、今朝同役と相談の上、左記の通り名前を書いて清右衛門殿にお目にかかり申しました。

Regarding the matter of visiting your residence and having an audience with you, we learned confidentially that concerning the subordinate official Hagizaemon, since there are other concerns here as well, we are considering appointing a successor subordinate official. Therefore, we were asked to write down the names of four or five suitable candidates for your review first. Furthermore, there was thorough consultation with your colleague officials, and we were to prepare and bring the names of successor subordinate officials by tomorrow evening. After that, we would pay our respects again. Since we were told this was a confidential matter, we informed our colleague officials and held discussions, stating that we would submit the written names by tomorrow evening.
Same 6th day
One, Since we received your informal consultation yesterday, this morning after consulting with our colleague officials, we wrote down names as follows and had an audience with Lord Seiemon:
