びんたらといふもの。海に入て
魚となる。これなりと。又いふ

魚のかたちをゑがき。家の
うちにはりおけば。忽ちにいえて
後うれひなしとぞ。およそ此島にすむ人。頭痛（づつう）の
やまひといふことなし。
○山海経（せんがいきやう）巻の一曰。柢山（ていざんに）有（うを）＿レ魚（あり）其状（そのかたち）如（うしの）＿レ牛（ごとし）又（また）有（つばさ）＿レ翼（あり）。
其名曰鯥（そのなをりくといふ）冬死而夏生（ふゆししてなつうまる）食之（これをくらへば）無（しゆしつ）＿二腫疾（なし）＿一。とあるものと似（に）
たれども。是（これ）は冬（ふゆ）も死（し）するものにあらず。

あり。 本朝（ほんてう）第一（だいいち）の現留石（げんりうせき）といふ硯石（すゞりいし）は此島（このしま）にありとぞ。

余ありと云。

△姑弥（くみ）《八重山の西にある》△多計富（たけとみ）《くみの東に並んでいる。この島にびたんという魚がある。形は図のようである》
土地の人々が伝えて言うには、天孫氏の侍女で
びんたらというものが海に入って
魚となった、これであると。また言うには
頭痛を患う者が、この
魚の形を描いて家の
内に貼っておけば、たちまち治って
後の心配はないという。およそこの島に住む人には頭痛の
病気ということがない。
○『山海経』巻の一に曰く「柢山に魚有り、その形は牛の如く、また翼有り。その名を鯥（りく）と曰う。冬死して夏生まれ、これを食らえば腫れ物の疾患がない」とあるものと似ているが、これは冬も死ぬものではない。

The local people传say that a court lady of the Tenson clan called "bintara" entered the sea and became a fish—this is that fish. They also say that those who suffer from headaches can draw the shape of this fish and paste it inside their houses, and it will immediately cure them with no future worries. Generally, people living on this island do not suffer from the ailment of headaches.
○The "Shanhaijing" (Classic of Mountains and Seas), Volume One, states: "On Mount Di there is a fish whose form is like an ox and which also has wings. Its name is called 'riku.' It dies in winter and is born in summer; eating it prevents swelling diseases." This seems similar, but this one does not die in winter.
