明朝に媚びて日本へ貢物を送らなかったことから、薩摩藩主が征伐を請い、数千の兵馬を向けられ、ついに尚寧王を捕虜にして薩摩に連行し、人質とすること三年。先の過ちを悔いて、以来永世にわたって属臣となることを誓う。そのため許されて帰された。時に後水尾天皇の慶長十七年、大明の万暦四十年である。

Because they flattered the Ming dynasty and did not send tribute to Japan, the lord of Satsuma requested permission to punish them. Several thousand troops and horses were sent, and finally King Shō Nei was taken captive and brought to Satsuma as a hostage for three years. He repented his former errors and vowed to be a vassal for all eternity thereafter. Therefore he was pardoned and allowed to return. This was in the 17th year of Keichō under Emperor Go-Mizunoo, the 40th year of Wanli of the Great Ming.
