　門様に付罷在候事
　御家中へ番指物白き絹切さき三星安茂雨に
　怒連狭き小屋に而朝暮婦春ほり鼠色に罷成
　三星も流連殊之外見苦敷御座候故何義内匠
　へ申断其後思に拵申候
耶蘇制罸記朱書入曰正月四日之朝両将原之
《割書：賊》城へ押向ふ凶徒等兼而揆里しは両将着有之
　を外聞之者を以て是を伺ひ夜討にせんと支度
　仕る由両将能古連を察して朝之至着や武

　道勇み敷故也とそ叶に家来は前日着舩也信綱は島
　原ゟ馬上に而家来松井主馬藤沼彦左衛門井戸

現代語訳

西村五兵衛覚書に曰く、戸田左門様の御下知を得て、左門様に付き従って参った事について：
御家中への番の指物は白い絹を切り裂いたもので三つ星（の紋）。雨風に晒され、狭い小屋で朝夕を過ごすうちに鼠色になってしまい、三つ星も滲んで、ひどく見苦しくなってしまった。そのため何某内匠へ申し出て断り、その後思うように新調申し上げた。

『耶蘇制罰記』朱書入れに曰く、正月四日の朝、両将が原城へ押し向かう。凶徒等はかねてより図っていたのは、両将の到着があることを外聞を通じて探り、夜討ちを仕掛けようと支度していたが、両将はこれをよく察知して、朝の到着となった。武道に勇ましいゆえである。板倉重昌の家来は前日に着船していた。信綱は島原から馬上にて、家来の松井主馬、藤沼彦左衛門、井戸忠三郎だけを供に連れて原城の役場へ到着した。

『天草軍記』に曰く：
寅年正月四日有馬表着陣の面々

According to the memorandum of Nishimura Gohei: Having received orders from Toda Saemon-sama, I accompanied Saemon-sama in this matter:
The identification banners for the household guard were made of torn white silk with three-star crests. Exposed to wind and rain in cramped quarters day and night, they turned mouse-gray, and the three stars became blurred, appearing extremely unsightly. Therefore, I reported this to a certain Takumi and requested replacement, after which new ones were properly made to satisfaction.

According to the red annotations in the "Yaso Seibatsu-ki" (Record of Christian Suppression): On the morning of the 4th day of the 1st month, both generals advanced toward Hara Castle. The rebels had long plotted to spy on the generals' arrival through informants and launch a night attack, making preparations accordingly. However, both generals perceived this well and arrived in the morning instead. This was due to their martial valor. Itakura Shigemasa's retainers had arrived by ship the previous day. Nobitsuna arrived at the Hara campaign headquarters on horseback from Shimabara, accompanied only by his retainers Matsui Shume, Fujinuma Hikozaemon, and Ido Chusaburo.
