　に可被成由に而竹把を付柵を振り要害正して
　被成候城中兵粮きれ東追手ゟ磯物取に出
　城中へ帰り申所を御覧被成越中守殿持口之
　柵を被明置候而落人参候はゝ生捕に可被成との

現代語訳

兵糧攻めにするために竹束を付けて柵を張り巡らし、要害を固めて包囲を完成させた。城中は兵糧が尽きたため、東の追手口から海産物を取りに出て城中へ帰ろうとするところを、越中守殿がご覧になった。越中守殿は担当口の柵を開けておき、落人が来れば生け捕りにするということで待機されていたところ、落人どもが数多く来たのを捕らえられた。その中に島原から籠城に加わった者たちがいたので、城中の様子を詳細にお尋ねになったところ、矢の材料も尽き、兵糧もございませんと申し上げた。

島原要聞記によると、松平伊豆守信綱、戸田左門氏鉄が島原表へ参陣し、また諸大将衆が次々にかの地に着陣したので、すぐに諸手へ陣場を割り当てた。これにより各々が攻口を受け取り、陣所を構築した。

To carry out the starvation siege, they attached bamboo bundles to construct palisades all around and fortified the strategic points to complete the encirclement. As provisions ran out within the castle, the defenders attempted to go out from the eastern main attack point to gather seafood and return to the castle, which was observed by Lord Etchu-no-kami. Lord Etchu-no-kami had left the palisade at his assigned sector open, waiting to capture alive any escapees who might come. When many escapees did come, he captured them. Among those captured were men who had joined the siege from Shimabara, so when he inquired in detail about conditions within the castle, they reported that both arrow materials and provisions were exhausted.

According to the Shimabara Yōbun-ki (Essential Records of Shimabara), Matsudaira Izu-no-kami Nobutsuna and Toda Samon Ujikane joined the campaign at Shimabara, and as various generals arrived successively at that location, attack sectors were immediately allocated to all forces. Consequently, each received their assigned attack point and constructed their camp positions.
