勇功記曰此頃　釣命を承而重而着陣之
　人々は寺沢兵庫頭松原右衛門左細川越中
　守小笠原右近太夫同信濃守有馬左衛門
　左松平丹後守水野日向守松平大隅守以上
　九頭也前後之軍勢凡十万余人也但し薩
　摩勢は大隅守家老島津豊前三原左衛
　門等相俱して馳来る伊豆守殿諸将之責口
　を被定忠郷之陣場は本之如し同八日伊豆
　守殿へ諸家之用聞を被召松原大隅守軍
　勢に忍者有彼等仕寄前を往来之為に

　割符を出し度との願あり件之割符を受取
　被置仕寄番之輩に御渡し可有と被仰上月
　与三郎御陣に帰り伊豆守殿之仰を申其晩

『勇功記』に曰く、この頃、釣命（つりめい）を承って重ねて着陣した人々は、寺沢兵庫頭、松原右衛門左、細川越中守、小笠原右近太夫、同信濃守、有馬左衛門左、松平丹後守、水野日向守、松平大隅守、以上九頭である。前後の軍勢は凡そ十万余人である。ただし薩摩勢は大隅守家老島津豊前、三原左衛門等が相共して馳せ来た。伊豆守殿は諸将の攻撃口を定められ、忠郷の陣場は本来の通りとした。同八日、伊豆守殿へ諸家の用聞きを召された。松原大隅守の軍勢に忍者がおり、彼等が仕寄せ前を往来するために

割符を出したいとの願いがあった。件の割符を受け取って置かれ、仕寄せ番の輩にお渡しするべきであると仰せ上げ、月与三郎は御陣に帰り、伊豆守殿の仰せを申し上げた。その晩、大隅守家来三原左衛門の判形の符を山口藤兵衛、本田新右衛門という両使が持参したので、両先手の足軽頭堀尾孫兵衛、上田忠右衛門に彼の三原の割符をお渡しがあった。同日の昼、上使からまた覚書を出して言うには、その趣旨は

According to the "Yukōki" (Record of Brave Deeds), around this time, those who received the imperial command and took positions again were: Terasawa Hyōganokami, Matsubara Uemonza, Hosokawa Etchūnokami, Ogasawara Ukon-dayū, the same Shinano-no-kami, Arima Zaemonza, Matsudaira Tangonokami, Mizuno Hyūganokami, and Matsudaira Ōsuminokami - nine commanders in total. The combined military forces numbered approximately 100,000 men. However, the Satsuma forces came rushing with Ōsuminokami's chief retainer Shimazu Bunzen, Mihara Zaemon, and others accompanying them. Lord Izunokami designated the attack positions for the various generals, and Tadasato's encampment remained as originally planned. On the same 8th day, Lord Izunokami summoned liaison officers from the various houses. There were ninja among Matsubara Ōsuminokami's forces, and there was a request to issue identification tokens so that these men could move back and forth in front of the siege works.

The aforementioned tokens were to be received and distributed to those on siege duty, as was ordered. Tsukiyo Saburō returned to the main camp and reported Lord Izunokami's instructions. That evening, two messengers named Yamaguchi Tōbei and Honda Shinemon brought tokens bearing the seal of Ōsuminokami's retainer Mihara Zaemon. These tokens from Mihara were then distributed to the ashigaru commanders of both vanguards, Horio Magobei and Ueda Chūemon. On the same day at noon, the imperial messenger issued another memorandum stating:
